Bottom Line

The Hotel Quinta Del Sol is a clean and functional budget motel that's a bit outside of the touristy core of Cabo San Lucas. It's a five-minute drive to the nightlife and action around the marina. All 72 studio-style rooms feature free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and bottled water, plus extended-stay-style amenities, including dining areas and well-equipped kitchenettes. However, they are a bit worn. The hotel has a simple all-day restaurant that serves a free breakfast plus a freeform pool with hot tubs, and while these don't add up to much, it's more than most nearby budget hotels offer. As an alternative, the nearby Fairfield Inn Los Cabos provides modern, brand-name lodging with most of the same amenities for less.

Hotel Quinta Del Sol

Scene

No-frills budget motel for those who don't mind not being in the center of the action

The Hotel Quinta del Sol will look familiar to most travelers who've stated at their share of budget motels. Inside, though, things are bright and pleasant, including a modern, glass-heavy lobby and common areas that feel like a step above other budget hotels in the vicinity. Still, this isn't the kind of hotel where guests will hang out day after day, and is best used as a cheap home base for reaching the party in downtown Cabo San Lucas. The restaurant and pool serve as the hotel’s only gathering spaces, though neither were ever really crowded during our visit. With two beds in every room, the clientele tends to be local families (in summer) or small Canadian and American groups (winter).

Location

In a bland neighborhood on the outskirts of downtown Cabo San Lucas

The hotel’s location on the edge of town is removed from the frenetic hustle and late-night noise of downtown Cabo San Lucas. However, many of the city’s most popular restaurants, bars, and shops are best reached by car as it's a 15-minute walk along traffic-clogged roads to the center of town. The nearest public beach -- Medano Beach -- is likewise reachable in just five minutes by car. Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) is 35 minutes away, outside of charming San Jose del Cabo.

Rooms

Spacious, simple rooms with kitchenettes, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs

The rooms here are perfectly fine for a short stay, and provide a clean and relatively well-kept place to bed down while enjoying the area's goings on. Oak wood furniture, budget cabinetry, and a monochromatic beige-on-white color palette all create a look that’s inviting and homey. However, there's nothing particularly charming about the rooms, and we did spot some wear on furniture and tiling in the bathrooms.

Each of the 72 rooms is an identical, 370-square-foot (34-square-meter) Junior Suite with a studio-style layout and two double beds. The floor plan is spacious enough to accommodate distinct sleeping and dining areas, plus a small work desk and a well-equipped kitchenette (with a microwave, mini-fridge, sink, and electric cooktop). Air-conditioning and bottled water come standard as well. Free Wi-Fi is likewise available, and we found the service to be fast and reliable during our visit. Bathrooms feature a split design, with the sink separate from the toilet and shower/tub area. Marble and tile surfaces look nice on the surface, but we saw lots of water stains. Vert de Terres natural toiletries are standard.

Features

A Mexican restaurant, free breakfast, and a freeform pool with hot tubs, but a tiny gym

Extras are predictably limited at this budget property, though what's on offer is better than most local hotels in this category. Las Quintas Restaurant serves a free breakfast buffet plus a la carte lunches and dinners. The menu is predominantly traditional Mexican that includes grilled, locally sourced seafood with a bit of American fare as well. The casual space is located adjacent to the pool, with both indoor and alfresco seating.

The hotel’s freeform pool is modestly sized, though it offers ample space given the property’s relatively limited capacity. Rows of patio dining sets and wooden lounge chairs line the edges of the pool, providing for ample shaded seating. Two above-ground hot tubs are also available.

The fitness center is tiny, with only a handful of reasonably modern cardio machines, plus a couple of workout benches with free weights. A closet-size internet/business center features two modern computer workstations plus a printer, though Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. Free self-parking is provided in a secure, off-street lot with 24-hour security.
