A semi-remote location creates a relaxing vibe for the hotel, but takes away from restaurant and dining options
Away from the hustle and bustle of Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, this hotel sits almost exactly between the two cities. Restaurants and bars aren't within walking distance, but shuttles run to Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo regularly, and taxis are always available.
San Jose del Cabo is the quainter, historic option. The waters are rough and there's less of a nightlife, but the area retains its Mexican flair and features numerous restaurants and galleries. Cabo San Lucas presents visitors with stunning scenery and a distinct Mexican charm, especially around the coastline. The large cluster of rock formations on Land's End is famously beautiful, and there's great whale watching January through March (particularly in March). Old churches, charming restaurants, and handicraft vendors prove that this town is more than just a wild spring-break getaway.
One reason why Los Cabos remains a staple in the beach resort world is its California-esque vibe. It almost feels like an extension of Southern California, with similar deluxe accommodations, striking golf courses, and high-end shops.
Melia Cabo is a sprawling, 305-room beachfront all-inclusive in between the cities of Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. Common areas feature chic modern decor touches, like bright red lounge chairs in the lobby and flowy fabrics draped across ceilings and outdoor patios. Rooms are spacious, clean, and come with an airy, fresh style (though some feature old tube TVs). The grounds are lovely and feature plenty of lounge seating and cabanas, assorted ping-pong tables, a sprawling pool, and even a swim-able (though small) beach area (unusual around San Jose del Cabo, where waters are rough). The pool's swim-up bar is a perk, but has received some complaints of poor upkeep, and the "separate" kiddy pool is really just separated by some in-water pylons -- though an impeccable 10-person Jacuzzi is perched on a top level overlooking the ocean. Being that it's not within walking distance from Cabo San Lucas or San Jose del Cabo much dining, drinking, and entertainment will be done on-site; only two restaurants are available, which may feel a bit limiting on a long vacation.
