Capella Pedregal Rating: 5.0 Pearls

Though known for its party-hearty atmosphere, Cabo should not be overlooked for a relaxed vacation. Some of our favorite hotels on the Baja Peninsula are intimate boutiques where the focus is not so much on the partying (though it's never inaccessible) and more on the quiet natural beauty and authentic charm of the region. Check out these wonderful boutiques here: The 66 rooms at the super luxurious Capella Pedregal all come with fireplaces, private terraces, and plunge pools, along with beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean and rocky cliffs. Interior design is nearly flawless, with Spanish-Colonial-inspired touches such as beautiful dark wood French doors and beamed ceilings; and the service is impeccable -- expect thoughtful extras such as afternoon deliveries of beer, chips, and guacamole to the rooms. And as far as on-site amenities go, it's tough to top the Capella Pedregal's impressive list: an infinity pool overlooking the coast, the organic Auriga Spa, and a restaurant situated on a cliff with killer views.

This beautiful, luxurious 57-room resort is one of the nicest in Los Cabos, and offers more of a home-y vibe than other high-end properties in the area. Handsome, tastefully rooms start at 925 square feet, and are decorated in traditional Baja style, with authentic artwork and wood detailing. They come with high-end electronics and decadent bathrooms (some with jetted tubs), but the private terraces are arguably the highlight; all have at least partial ocean views (many have jaw-dropping vistas), and some have whirlpools. The luxurious Zoetry Casa Del Mar Los Cabos is not your typical beach resort. Here, guests won't find children scurrying around or wild spring breakers; rather, Zoetry's guests are treated to the tranquility of the Pacific Ocean in a resort that focuses on relaxation and overall wellness. The 42-room, hacienda-style property features yoga, tennis courts, dance classes, a walking path, wine tastings, and an on-site nutrition expert; and the restaurant menus are geared toward organic and gourmet cuisine intent on promoting health. It's located on a protected sea turtle hatching ground, and the open layout adds to the relaxing atmosphere. This 98-villa property is ideally located in downtown Cabo San Lucas. It's within walking distance to the marina, and guests are only a few minutes from local shopping and cuisine, as well as fishing and water activities, such as sailing and surfing. The resort, which sits in between beautiful natural rock formations, has sweeping views from nearly every angle, including from the private balconies off each villa. The villas -- either one-bedroom Master Villas or two-bedroom Luxury Villas -- feature nicely equipped kitchens (no ovens though), spacious bathrooms with walk-in showers and soaking tubs, and a streamlined modern decor. Far removed from the party atmosphere of Cabos San Lucas, this upscale property is comprised of 95 residences on beautifully landscaped grounds that include pools, putting greens, fire pits, a fitness center, tennis court, and restaurant. Units are spacious, with large living rooms, full kitchens, and private yards or patios. Spanish pop star Enrique Iglesias is part-owner of this quiet and well-kept property, mostly frequented by couples and families on long vacations. It is a 15-minute hike from the beach, which has rougher waves than the southern shores. Casa Natalia is a gorgeously executed 16-room boutique in downtown San Jose del Cabo. Everything from the quaint lobby with original artwork to the on-site restaurant has charming local flair. Even standard rooms are spacious, with living rooms and balconies featuring hammocks (though the tube TVs are one notable drawback). The only way to beat the heat on-site is an attractive but small and walled-in pool area, but the beach is only a short drive away. Book here if you want romantic seclusion -- but if a beachfront party spot is more your speed, consider nearby adults-only Temptation Resort instead. Welk Resort Sirena Del Mar is a picturesque cliff-side property overlooking the Sea of Cortez and the famous Los Arcos. The 36-villa resort is beautifully appointed with travertine stone floors, thatched palapa roofs, and two stunning infinity pools. Three private decks allow for sunbathing throughout the resort, and the intimate cove beach prevents outside guests and vendors from wandering the property. Each villa comes complete with a fully stocked kitchen, accented by granite countertops and stone floors; colorful furniture and artwork; and simple bedrooms with huge sliding doors that lead to private balconies.
