Villa la Estancia Rating: 4.5 Pearls

Los Cabos is known for its beautiful beaches (and buzzing nightlife) dotted with rugged cliffs and scrub-covered hills. Strong currents and rough waves can sometimes deter swimming, but our favorite hotels have access to some prime stretches of sand and surf nonetheless: The high-end Villa la Estancia offers a nice reprieve from the crazy, party hotels that Cabo is known for -- especially since it sits right on Medano Beach, whose (usually) calm waters can attract crowds.

Set against the ethereal background of the Pacific Ocean colliding with a massive natural rock formation that hugs the resort, Grand Solmar Land's End is a luxe choice in Los Cabos. The secluded beach at this luxe boutique is gorgeous to suntan beside, but rough reefs and large waves make it unfit for swimming. Located on a hillside on the very southern tip of the California Baja Peninsula, Pedregal offers stunning scenery -- rocky cliffs, dramatic coastlines, and desert landscape -- but unfortunately the beaches are too rough for swimming. This flat stretch of sand is perfect for sunbathing and catching a game of volleyball. With direct access to a gorgeous, swimmable beach, this adults-only property is a romantic option removed from the Cabo nightlife. The section of popular Medano Beach might be crowded at the Cabo Villas, but it is swimmable, and guests will never lack for things to do. Located ideally on a less crowded stretch of Medano Beach, Casa Dorada offers one of the best swimming areas in Cabo San Lucas. With direct, private beach access, this sexy resort earns itself major brownie points. The waves at the beach can get rough, but the area is rarely crowded and the views are incredible. The above average, plush lounge chairs and cabanas, both at the pool and on the beach, are real perks at this peaceful resort. Directly on a beautiful, private beach (that is regrettably not swim-friendly) the Cabo Azul Resort offers a departure from Los Cabos' typical party scene. This attractive beach at the Marbella Suites also hosts nightly bonfires. The waves may be too rough for swimming, but the beach at the Villa Del Palmar is beautiful nonetheless.
