Oyster Review Summary

Photos and Review by Oyster.com Investigators

Pros

  • Convenient central location near major attractions, shopping, dining, and nightlife
  • Spacious, elegant rooms with flat-screen TVs, minibars, and hydro massage showers
  • Luxurious rooftop restaurant with wonderful city views and an outdoor lounge
  • Lovely, classic decor throughout the entire property
  • Loaner bicycles available
  • Business center (for a fee)
  • Suites provide extra space and great light

Cons

  • Daily fee for Wi-Fi
  • No fitness center or parking
  • No actual lobby and very small front desk

Bottom Line

The tiny front desk, lack of an actual lobby, and small elevators might give a poor first impression of this upscale boutique hotel, but don't be deterred. Inside, spacious rooms are elegant (pale yellow striped walls, blue and white toile bedspreads), and have flat-screen TVs, minibars, and hydro massage showers. Additional highlights here include a wonderful (and expensive) restaurant with gorgeous views of the surrounding buildings, and a stylish rooftop lounge. While there is no parking, no fitness center, and the business center is basically a single computer, rates tend to be fair and the location on Gran Via is hard to beat. However, there is a pesky daily fee for Wi-Fi.

Oyster Hotel Review

 Location

On the Gran Via, a historic avenue right in the heart of Madrid

The Ada Palace is located on Gran Via, a historic avenue lined by 18th and 19th century buildings, upscale boutiques, and great dining and nightlife, running right through the heart of Madrid. This side of the avenue is actually where the Chueca neighborhood starts, but Gran Via really belongs to Sol.

Chueca, with its narrow, winding streets full of small, intimate restaurants, lively bars, and gay-friendly venues is one of the nightlife hot spots in Madrid. It has a decidedly small-town feel to it, but it is undergoing a major overhaul, and areas that were somewhat forgotten are now must-sees, such as San Anton Market, a three-story marketplace with wonderful stores and a beautiful rooftop terrace open year-round. From Thursday to Sunday night, hordes of young locals and tourists alike go bar-hopping, have tapas, and dance until the early morning in this buzzing, young neighborhood.

Gran Via and Sol are part of the grand old Madrid. Most major attractions are in or around this area and can be easily reached on foot. Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, the Royal Palace, Cibeles and its gorgeous Palacio de Comunicaciones, the Puerta de Alcala, and even the Retiro park are less that 20 minutes from the hotel.

Gran Via is one of the main thoroughfares in central Madrid, so expect crowds and traffic day and night. The subway, bus and even the train are nearby, but most attractions are within walking distance.

  • 18-minute drive to Madrid-Barajas Airport
  • Steps to restaurants, bars, shopping, and nightlife
  • 5-minute walk to Cibeles
  • 7-minute walk to Puerta del Sol
  • 7-minute walk to Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum
  • 12-minute walk to Plaza Mayor
  • 12-minute walk to El Prado Museum
  • 12-minute walk to Puerta de Alcala
  • 14-minute walk to upscale shopping on Serrano Street
  • 15-minute walk to Retiro Park, Madrid’s most famous garden
  • 16-minute walk to Plaza de Oriente, home to the Royal Palace, the Royal Theater, and Sabatini Gardens
  • 17-minute walk to La Latina, a nightlife hotspot
  • 19-minute walk to Reina Sofia Museum
  • 20-minute walk to La Almudena Cathedral
  • 15-minute bus ride to Templo de Debod Park, with great views and an original Egyptian temple
