Nonantum Resort occupies two buildings: the historic Carriage House Inn, with Victorian-style rooms, and the Portside Lodge. Room decor varies incredibly, but all rooms are pleasant and subdued, especially the Ocean View rooms. The Tides Beach Club in Kennebunkport was fully renovated in 2011, and the vibe evolved from cozy to trendy, but still has plenty of New England appeal in the inviting lobby with a library and seating space. This renowned inn is one of the premier luxury options in Maine, and offers a true boutique experience in charming Kennebunk. It is housed in a historic building, and so its 26 rooms vary greatly in size. The best seat in the house for reading, however, is from the porch of the Junior Suite. The Captain Lord Mansion hotel, just an eight-minute walk from the town center, is a small classic inn featuring Victorian-style rooms. The charming hotel even boasts cozy common areas, perfect for snuggling up with a book. Don't let the intimate size of the Parsons Post House Inn fool you: Most of the cozy rooms have a modern look, sporting a subtle beach theme with comfortable white linens and light sand-colored walls. That being said, the property has plenty of great places to make your own personal library, like on the front porch of the hotel. The Dockside Guest Quarters hotel has large, bright rooms with a lovely (yet basic) seaside-cottage style. The hotel lacks amenities like a fitness center and a pool, but guests enjoy perks such as free bicycle rentals and inviting common areas. The 37-room Breakwater Inn & Spa offers travelers a selection of room choices, all with perfect corners for kicking back with a good read, especially the Spa King Suite. This historic sea captain's home is now a charming, 15-room inn full of indulgent freebies and modern touches. It's in a quiet, residential area of Kennebunkport, and has a cozy Living Room with a library. With a waterfront location in Kennebunkport, the historic Colony Hotel offers incredible ocean views. Guests can even relax with a novel on the lovely wrap-around porch. The Black Point Inn offers stunning waterfront on three sides, in a secluded spot along Western Cove. It's the only resort on Prouts Neck, and many guests enjoy the remote environment, especially when they have a good read. Stage Neck Inn has a scenic oceanfront location, right next to York Harbor Beach in the cute town of York. The 58 rooms have simple decor, and many have small but cozy balconies for reading against an ocean wave soundtrack.
