Oyster Review Summary

Photos and Review by Oyster.com Investigators

Pros

Cons

  • Far from Sorrento proper
  • Wi-Fi can be slow
  • Restaurant has limited options for non-fans of seafood
  • Lack of nearby nightlife and dining options

Bottom Line

This romantic hotel has spectacular views of the Bay of Naples and is a popular destination for guests seeking peace and quiet away from the bustle of Sorrento's main tourist areas. The management provides free shuttle service into town several times a day, which is a 20-minute drive away. (A car is recommended for those wanting to be fully mobile.) Guests have noted that this property is generally inconvenient for families with children, given its dramatic position on a cliff and the many steep steps to the adjacent beach area. Still, visitors have remarked on the convenience of the hotel's position in regards to day trips around the Amalfi Coast.

Oyster Hotel Review

 Scene

Secluded, quiet hotel away from the main tourist areas of Sorrento; attractive to older guests

An older set of travelers favors the quiet atmosphere and splendid views provided by this property perched on a seaside cliff. There is little to do here besides enjoy the sea and the pool, given how far the hotel is from Sorrento, but there is an occasional evening of entertainment provided by the property. The structure itself, consisting of a three-story row of rooms perched dramatically above the Bay of Naples, makes the most of its location. The entrance is set before a large stone terrace that affords beautiful vistas, and the saltwater pool has an equally impressive position. Common areas in the hotel are airy and elegant, with marble floors, overstuffed leather chairs, and gilt-framed paintings.

 Location

Situated on a high cliff that's a 20-minute drive from the center of town

Piazza Tasso, considered the unofficial town center of Sorrento, is a 20-minute drive from the hotel. Adventurous walkers could make the trek in a little under two hours. The hotel runs a shuttle bus a handful of times a day to the town, though some have noted that it can get quite crowded. Day excursions to Pompeii, Herculaneum, Vesuvius, and Rome are all possible by train from Sorrento.

 Rooms

Nautical-themed and plain, but some spaces have breathtaking views of the bay

Blue stripes adorn a number of the rooms here, and white-and-blue themed textiles complete the nautical decor in otherwise plain rooms with desktop flat-screen TVs. Rooms with seaside views have a small balcony with a pair of lounge chairs that allow for spectacular views of the sunset. Rooms at the front of the hotel have views of the bay as well; spaces in the back do not.

 Features

Private bathing cove and outdoor saltwater pool; on-site dining and bar options as well

Hotel Delfino maintains a private bathing area down a set of stairs at the bottom of the cliff on which the property is situated. Guests have noted that the steepness of the access path means the hotel’s grounds would not be a suitable place to have small children left unattended. The two on-site restaurants -- La Rotonda and Punta San Lorenzo -- generally garner favorable reviews from guests who have noted that the dinner and lunch menu are fish-heavy, though the eateries do have limited vegetarian options. Delfino also offers two bars: the poolside Miracapri and the lobby’s Le Sirene. Wi-Fi is free but spotty.
