What It's Like

A 10-minute ferry ride from the Miami mainland, Fisher Island was developed as a winter estate by William Vanderbilt II in 1925. Now this lush 216-acre island is home to one of the wealthiest residential communities in the country. The private Fisher Island Club presides over the posh residences and the 45-room Fisher Island Hotel & Resort. The setting evokes a different era: Peacocks roam the island and tuxedo-clad waiters know residents by name.

Where to Stay

Unless you're the lucky owner of a Fisher Island residence, there's only one place to stay: the Fisher Island Hotel & Resort, which has a top-notch tennis center, a nine-hole golf course, multiple pools, two marinas, and a 22,000-square-foot fitness center and spa.
