Perla Verde Hotel

The trendy decor of Hotel Perla Verde sets it apart from some it its similarly priced neighbors. The reception desk and lobby bar are covered in spotted cowhide. Extensive use of the iconic see-through Kartell ghost chairs visually expand the space and lead the eye to focus on large black and white photographs, with nostalgic images of the AC Milan soccer team. Breakfast is served on the minimalist front porch, set with white plastic sofas, transparent stools, and coffee tables. Upstairs on the roof, families and couples enjoy a small free-form pool and lounge on an espresso-stained wood sundeck. The mini-club keeps smaller kids busy with activities.

The Perla is just 50 yards from the beach and surrounded by a pine forest with walking trails. The amusement and water park, Mirabilandia, is 15 minutes northwest by car. Italia in Miniatura, a park with miniatures of famous Italian and European buildings, and the city of Ravenna, a locale known for its beautiful ancient mosaics and eight UNESCO World Heritage sites, are each about a 30-minute drive south and north respectively. Unfortunately, the hotel doesn't provide parking.

48 rooms and suites at Hotel Perla Verde look tailored and handsome with a neutral color palette of white, stone, and mocha. Transparent Kartell nightstands and coffee tables echo the theme of the lobby. Overall unit size depends on room level -- some rooms are a tight squeeze. All spaces are air-conditioned and have premium linens, a stocked mini-bar, and flat-screen TVs. Creature comforts include fluffy robes and kettles for tea and coffee. Some of the bathrooms are white-on-white while others are dramatically tiled from floor to ceiling in large azure blue tiles for an experience of rich color. Fixtures are high-end with bidets and wall-mounted hairdryers. Small furnished balconies showcase distant and obscured ocean views or the street.

The hotel's Wellbeing area includes a whirlpool, Finnish sauna with color therapy, fitness corner with equipment, and a quiet area with chaise lounges and herbal teas. Massages can be booked for a fee. The sixth floor rooftop has a sundeck with lounges and a small, heated swimming pool with a counter-current for swimming in lieu of space for proper laps. The beach is easily accessible and the town can be explored via a free bike. Golf and tennis are nearby but off-site. The hotel's restaurant gets high marks for its selection of local and international food, artfully presented buffets, and willingness to customize dishes for guests who are gluten-free or have allergies. Aside from the mini-club for older kids, families with infants will appreciate access to high chairs, baby bottle warmers, cots, baby beds, and baby bathtubs.
