Carmel Valley Ranch Rating: 4.5 Pearls

Monterey County encompasses some of the west coasts's most beautiful coastline, and charming seaside spots such as Monterey, Big Sur, and Carmel. The area's picturesque rocky cliffs, ruggedly lush landscapes, and beautiful misty shores define Northern California -- and some of our favorite hotels have the best views of it all. From ancient redwoods and jaw-dropping ocean views in Big Sur to the manicured lawns of Pebble Beach, these views are sure to captivate. First up is Carmel Valley Ranch, a 500-acre property offering modern luxury in a rustic, bucolic setting, with tall oak trees, organic gardens, and rolling vineyards. In addition to gorgeous, well-outfitted rooms, the ranch's many features include two outdoor pools, an 18-hole golf course designed by Pete Dye, and seven fire pits perfect for nightly fireside s'mores. And everywhere, amazing views abound, but none better than from the expansive deck of the two-bedroom suite, seen here.

The luxurious Inn at Spanish Bay is the largest resort in the Pebble Beach complex, and offers a laundry list of impressive property features, including a lap pool, spa, and five restaurants. Most guests come here for the area's world-renowned golf, and it's no surprise why when courses offer such breathtaking views of Monterey's rugged coastline as this one. Situated on more than 200 acres of picturesque land, The Ventana Inn & Spa looks like a rustic cabin nestled in the woods — yet it features 62 luxurious, streamlined rooms with wooden accents, refreshing pops of color, and modern amenities such as flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, and free Wi-Fi. Many rooms have fireplaces, creating a cozy retreat vibe to fit with its surroundings, made complete with lovely views of the Monterey countryside. And the best place to soak it all in? Why in your private Jacuzzi, of course. A sprawling waterfront property right in the heart of Downtown Monterey, the Portola offers a solid restaurant serving fresh California cuisine, Monterey’s first and only craft brewery, a serene spa with great treatments, and an excellent kids' program. And the views of the marina certainly don't get much better than this. Working out is made easier at the Monterey Plaza Hotel and Spa which offers gorgeous views of the coastline from its on-site fitness center. As close to the ocean as you can get, the hotel is built on pillars above the water and offers an ocean experience like few other hotels in the area do. From these gorgeous views, to the wonderful outdoor seating in both on-site restaurants, the property blends with the sea in every possible way. A solid value stay in Monterey — with views! — isn't easy to come by. But this 18-room inn has a lot to offer, once you get past the hodge-podge decor and its location on a busy street. All rooms have a slightly differently look (and some are more in need of updates than others) and feature flat-screen TVs and fireplaces. The hotel has a warm vibe with a cozy lobby bar, a delicious free breakfast, and this ocean-view rooftop deck where a free cocktail hour sometimes takes place. Luxe it may not be, but when you're looking at this, does it really matter all that much? The 144-room cliff-side Hyatt Carmel Highlands offers awe-inspired views unrivaled anywhere else around Monterey and Carmel — some could even argue the entire West Coast. Accommodations are seemingly as roomy as the stunning ocean views they offer, made complete with working fireplaces and stocked with simple yet modern amenities. The on-site restaurants, such as Pacific's Edge seen here, serve meals that rival the scenery.
