Kid-friendly indoor/outdoor pool area with a lazy river
Directly on a private beach that is spacious and clean
Renowned Cypress Room offers breakfast and varied dinner menu
Good location near restaurants and other attractions
Seasonal activity program for children ages 5 to 12
Free Wi-Fi and parking
Cons
Not much to do for teens; better suited for younger children
Area can be overcrowded during peak season
Carpeted floors tend to hold lots of sand from the beach
Outdated room decor
Bottom Line
The 171-room Island Vista is a solid mid-range property located directly on the beach. Suites seem a bit outdated, with tube TVs and peachy floral bedspreads, but they are spacious and offer some great ocean views. In addition to a wide, clean beach, the resort features an attractive indoor/outdoor pool complex with Jacuzzis, a lazy river, and meandering pools.
The hotel is right on the beach, along with numerous other hotels lining Ocean Boulevard. It's a busy street, but there are sidewalks for the many tourists who are staying in the area.
Myrtle Beach is continually ranked as one of America's best family beach destinations, and offers visitors one-of-a-kind nightlife, more than 100 golf courses, and 60 miles of sandy shoreline. It's known to get a bit jam-packed, although the off-season brings smaller crowds -- but not those high southern temps ideal for sunbathing.
