Bottom Line

It's not fancy, but this budget resort does have a variety of features -- including a spa, a kids' club, and the popular, party-friendly Ocean Annie's Beach Bar -- plus free admission to a few area attractions thrown in. Rooms have kitchenettes and private balconies. Just know that the rooms and public spaces could use updating, some guests complain of bugs and maintenance issues, and the North Myrtle Beach location is a 15-minute drive from the boardwalk.

Sands Ocean Club Resort

Scene

This places prides itself on being fun.

Sands Ocean Club Resort's identity is closely tied to the famous bar that calls it home: Ocean Annie's Beach Bar. In fact, the bar is one of the main reasons people choose this resort again and again. Though it does have a seasonal kids club, many guests here like to party. In season, there's live entertainment from the sound stage, one of the few in Myrtle Beach.

Location

Beachfront North Myrtle Beach location right by Dunes Golf Course

Sands Ocean Club is located on the beach, right by Dunes Golf Course. It's a nine-minute drive to the restaurants and shops at Barefoot Landing, or a 15-minute drive to the action on the boardwalk. Golfers will appreciate the proximity to the Grand Dunes Golf Club, and it's a 30-minute drive to Diamondback Golf Course at the Woodland Valley Country Club, to which guests get free admission. Partiers will appreciate that the resort is home to the popular Ocean Annie's Beach Bar.

Rooms

Dated rooms, all with kitchenettes and private balconies

The resort features one-, two- and three-bedroom condos, each with private balconies. While rooms feature kitchens or kitchenettes with coffeemakers, microwaves, fridges and toasters, nothing -- with the exception of the flat-screen TVs -- appears to have been updated in the last decade. A few guests have complained of cockroach and maintenance issues, but the rooms we saw appeared clean; rooms vary, so it may be the luck of the draw.

Features

Free admission to lots of area attractions, plus a popular beach bar

The famous Ocean Annie's Beach Bar is the highlight here, but guests can also expect tons of freebies, which add serious value. Free admission to Wild Water & Wheels, Ocean Drive Pavilion Amusement Park and Sands Resorts Waterpark is all included, as is golf at Diamondback Golf Course. The spa will also appeal to adults, and families can expect indoor and outdoor pools, a lazy river, and a kids' club.
