A stylish hotel with a sexy twist
The Saint is anything but saint-like. The striking, trendy lobby, with white billowy curtains, bright decor, over-sized furniture, two-story columns, and sexy lighting; the restaurant named Tempt; and the elevator carpets encouraging guests to “Play Naughty” set the mood for an adult-oriented stay. The hotel is not a huge party destination per se, but it does have a sexy Jazz bar, a rooftop bar with expansive city views (slated to open by summer 2013), and chic rooms with a couple of frisky touches, such as the Do Not Disturb signs that play with the angel/devil dichotomy.
The hotel, located on the border of the lively (and touristy) French Quarter and the Central Business District, draws a mix of business travelers and couples. Families might want to consider the nearby Omni Royal Orleans, which is located in the heart of the French Quarter and offers great kid-friendly amenities.
On the border of the French Quarter and the Central Business District
The Saint has a central location on Canal Street, the border between the hopping French Quarter and the Central Business District. It is within easy walking distance of attractions (such as the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas, the Insectarium, Jackson Square, several museums, and the Preservation Hall), as well as dozens of exceptional restaurants.
Bourbon Street, the heart of the French Quarter, is just a block and a half away, and art galleries and great boutiques along Royal are also within easy walking distance. For longer distances, there are several streetcar lines running just outside the hotel.
Stylish blue-and-white rooms with great amenities
The Saint offers two room types: Standard King and Standard Two Queens. They’re virtually the same but for the bed type and layout, and have wonderful amenities, including flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, stocked minibars, and free Wi-Fi. The white and blue decor is attractive and chic, with details such as exposed brick walls and black-and-white photos of New Orleans scenes. Bathrooms are on the small side, but smart layouts with glass-enclosed walk-in showers make them feel a little bigger.
Small but well-equipped fitness center
The hotel’s fitness center is a small, bright space full of modern machines. It features cardio equipment with individual TV screens, as well as free weights and a couple of strength-training machines.
The sexy touches and party vibe are not quite family-friendly.
The Saint is a decidedly adult-oriented property: The carpet in the elevators reads “Play Naughty”; the Jazz bar has a sexy vibe, and rooms -- while fairly spacious -- don’t fit a rollaway. However, the hotel does offer cribs, which can be borrowed at no extra charge.
A stylish restaurant serving Southern food with a creative twist
Temp is a stylish restaurant located off the lobby. It has wooden floors and attractive white decor with oversized ornaments, including a huge ceiling lamp hanging low over a long table lined with see-through plastic chairs. It is open for all three meals, and serves contemporary Southern fare with a twist -- but the food can be a little uninspired.
Free Wi-Fi, valet parking, and evening turndown service are the highlights.
The hotel has a few handicap-accessible rooms.
