Beautiful public areas but....

By Jose E Calzado from Miami, FL on Dec 2, 2011

I have stayed in this hotel for a long weekend in October 2011. I was traveling alone this time. I saw the pics on this site and because I was traveling alone, the small size of room didn't bother me. I did all my reservations directly through the hotel's website and I was upgraded for free from a single room to a standard queen whe I got there. I am going to admit the lobby and public spaces are stunning but as others pointed out here, it is a dark hotel. I think the darkness is part of the chic ambience and I actually like it. Now the darkness is a pain walking the hallways to find your room and for the elevator buttons. Now about the infamous room - Ok do this, take a queen size platform bed into a room that leaves about 1 foot space on either side of bed between edge of mattress and wall. Then there is about 4 foot space between end of bed and opposing wall and in that space there is a tiny chic desk and metal chair - all sorrunded in dark paneling with only one window. As you can imagine its teeny tiny and claustaphobic to many. The bathroom is equally tiny, all white, super chic BUT there is a see thru glass wall between shower and room with only a white curtain for privacy! For two people this room will be a challenge and that's an understatement! Now another issue, the bars/clubs in the hotel next to the lobby. Be aware they are open to the public in the evenings and even have bouncers and the hotel's security is beefed up too. If you are a guest, be prepared to prove you are staying at hotel in evening - card key is ok. The lobby is sometimes packed with "party people." You are also given priority to enter the bars/clubs as a guest.

Rooms are small, well... But the lobby, bars, equipment are amazingly good given the price. I recommend.

Comicly Bad

I laughed aloud when I opened the door to my room and saw how small it was, and that was before I tried to use the bathroom. I joked that the hotel was so chic I had to go out in the hall to change my mind. Dark as the inside of a horse, too. People enter the elevators then lean forward to read the buttons. The common areas are attractive-- I liked the Library Bar and the dance club, but for the money I want a room that I can turn around in.
