A hip hotel with a lively lobby and stylish rooms
From the outside, the Paramount looks like it could be a classic, old-world hotel. Its arched façade preserves most of the elements originally designed by theater architect Thomas Lamb in 1928 -- including French Renaissance details and marquees. But past the entrance, guests find themselves in a sexy, two-story lobby with dim lighting and tons of seating areas. This is where guests lounge, laptop or travel guide in hand, during the day. It’s one of the few places where Wi-Fi access is offered free of charge in the hotel, and it becomes a buzzing spot until well into the night. On weekends, a DJ spins the latest hits, turning the lobby into a hip lounge where guests mingle by the fireplace.
The sexy, chic vibe and small rooms are not ideal for families, but couples and groups will probably find the hotel’s location off Times Square convenient for exploring the city. With a nice bar and great flexible meeting space with natural light, the Paramount is also a good option for business travelers. Just note that there’s a fee for in-room Wi-Fi, and that not all rooms are large enough to fit a work desk.
On a busy street half a block from Times Square
The Paramount is located on a busy street off Broadway in the heart of Times Square. This stretch of street is lined with theaters, and there’s a virtually constant stream of people -- mostly tourists -- filling the sidewalks. The TKTS booth, where same-day theater tickets are available for up to 50 percent off, is just steps away.
Times Square is arguably New York’s main attraction, especially for first-timers, and is busy around the clock. Food, souvenir shops, and sightseeing options are endless, but the sheer volume of bike and foot traffic can induce sensory overload. However, the area is served by myriad subway lines, making it a convenient base for exploring the city’s sights, both on foot and via public transportation.
Stylish and well-equipped -- but some are tiny
The Paramount features 597 stylish rooms with soothing white and blue decor and great amenities. Lower-category units are tiny even by New York standards, so those who need more space might want to book a Deluxe Room or a suite. Bathrooms are small but attractive, with chic metal sinks, accent walls with red tiling, and Pure toiletries.
A trendy grill and a casual café
A well-equipped, 24-hour gym
All the basics, including room service and a concierge
A few accessible rooms
The hotel offers a few accessible rooms, but some have tubs instead of roll-in showers. The only room types that offer accessible features are the Broadway Classic and the Superior Queen Room.
Behind the classic theater façade, the Paramount is a hip, stylish hotel with all the bells and whistles of the trendiest New York hotels, including a dimly lit lobby with DJ sessions on weekends and a see-and-be-seen vibe. Rooms, while stylish and equipped with great amenities -- such as iPod docks and high-definition flat-screen TVs -- are less bold than the common spaces, and some are tiny (even by New York standards). The hotel’s location half a block from Times Square is convenient for those interested in seeing the main attractions, but there’s a fee for in-room Wi-Fi.
