The Kahala Hotel and Resort Rating: 5.0 Pearls

Kahala is one of Hawaii's most romantic hotels and its beachfront weddings are simply gorgeous. Plus, while a wedding here will be pricey, all the little extras aren't quite as outrageously expensive as they are at some of Hawaii's larger, less-intimate luxury resorts. The most basic, "Say 'I Do'" wedding package ($2,300) includes a beach ceremony (on the beach, not under the gazebo), a minister and all the marriage paperwork, a lei for the bride and groom, a photographer for the ceremony, and a champagne toast for up to 10 guests. Rooms vary a lot by type -- and there are many types -- but they're all spacious, pristine, and beautiful. The Mountain Lanai room is one of the more modest the hotel has, yet it delivers 550 square feet of functionality and class. The spa offers a full range of treatments, including hair and makeup. The Ihilani's 387 rooms provide a fine level of comfort and elegance. The Ihilani's 387 rooms provide a fine level of comfort and elegance. There's no special honeymoon suite, but most newlyweds opt for the oceanfront suite, which has phenomenal views. The brand's signature "Heavenly" beds live up to the hype: They have pillow-top mattress, goose-down pillows, Egyptian cotton sheets, and a thick, duvet better suited for a Northeastern climate. The Moana Surfrider is located on arguably one of the nicest stretches of Waikiki Beach -- it's sandy and relatively clean, but it's packed. Excellent food, alcohol (despite the lack of flat-fee open bar options), and reception space make the Halekulani a great choice for a classy, yet less Hawaiian-feeling, wedding. The Halekulani boasts direct beach access, via the pool deck, to an extremely small plot of sand no more than 40 feet across and about as wide, depending on the tide. Pool attendants provide towels and folding beach chairs for guests to arrange themselves on the sand. With an understated color scheme, plenty of square footage, upscale bedding, and up-to-date electronics, rooms are luxurious, if a tad less bright and modern-looking than those at the Kahala, just outside of Waikiki. The Ihilani's 387 rooms provide a fine level of comfort and elegance. The gazebo is one of two ceremony locations -- the other is the lagoon lawn. The impressively large, 35,000-square-foot Ihilani Spa offers a long menu of services, including classic Hawaiian treatments utilizing local ingredients, along with lovely relaxation areas. Relaxation lounges have hot-water Roman pools, steam rooms, saunas, and terraces. Brides can get their hair and makeup done for $150 and up. The Ihilani's 387 rooms provide a fine level of comfort and elegance. The acclaimed fine-dining restaurant Azul serves elegant dinners each night except Sunday, and specializes in surf and turf (the three-course prix fixe is $45).
