Bottom Line

Overlooking a garden and located within a 10-minute walk of the Place de la Bastille and Opera Bastille, this is a mid-range option with 138 apartments -- both studios and one-bedrooms with weekly housekeeping -- on seven floors. The hotel has two meeting rooms, laundry facilities, and free Wi-Fi -- but little else. Although it is pet-friendly, and serves breakfast. The aesthetic is of a chain establishment, both in the rooms and in the common areas, but the apartment setup with kitchenettes might make it a good choice for long-term stays. Rooms are bright but plain, with laminate wood surfaces. Some have small balconies. Guests have noted some wear and tear in the rooms, particularly in the bathrooms.

Oyster Hotel Review

Citadines Bastille Marais Paris

Scene

Bright but bland, with ubiquitous wood laminate throughout

With a seven-story, plain white facade, this hotel looks and feels like a chain property. Inside, the atmosphere is bland but not unpleasant. The common areas consist of a lounge with a large flat-screen TV and a children's play corner, breakfast room, and front desk, but all project a blond-wood laminate sameness. Industrial blue carpeting and seasonal holiday decorations add a bit of cheer, and natural light makes spaces feel cheerier.

Location

A 10-minute walk from Place de la Bastille, within easy reach of public transportation

Located on a long, tree-lined boulevard with a pretty garden walkway, Citadines Bastille Marais Paris is about a 10-minute walk to the Place de la Bastille, which has numerous links to public transportation. Although it's in the 11th arrondissement, the Citadines Bastille Marais Paris is also only a 10-minute walk across the Boulevard Beaumarchais from the Place des Vosges in the Marais, and a 40-minute walk or 20-minute metro ride to La Promenade Plantee, which was the inspiration for New York's High Line. Marais and the Bastille area have plenty of restaurants. The twice weekly Marche Bastille food market and the Saturday Marche de Creation Bastille are within a five-minute walk of the hotel.

Rooms

Studio and one-bedroom apartments feature muted decor and handy kitchenettes.

The apartments are large and clean, with floor-to-ceiling windows that let in lots of light -- although the laminate aesthetic prevails. They all come with kitchenettes that include sinks with granite countertops, mini-fridges, microwaves, stovetop burners, dishwashers, and coffeemakers. All apartments have air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs.  Beds are plush, with crisp white bedding. Some of the bathrooms could use re-grouting, and the showers lack curtains (although that's common in France). Guests have complained that noise travels between units.

There's no pool, spa, fitness center, or on-site restaurant at the Citadines Bastille, although there is a small business center.
