Bottom Line

This mid-range boutique hotel, aptly located next to the Olympia music hall in the 9th Arrondissement, draws music lovers seeking good value and a central location, walking distance to the Tuileries Gardens. Its 47 rooms are colorful and music-themed, with record albums used as art and guitar paintings on the walls. The communal areas are fun to wander -- check out the carpets decorated with stars, the sequined elevator, and silhouettes on the walls. Near the front desk there is a multimedia area with headphones where guests can listen to CDs. Those unmoved by the musical theme might prefer the jaunty and very highly regarded Hôtel Joke, which is in the same price category and Arrondissement.

Hotel du Triangle d’Or

Scene

Fun and stylish music-centered decor appeals to youngish vacationers and concertgoers

Everything about the Hôtel du Triangle d’Or’s playful and stylish decor emphasizes music, from the giant glowing “On Tour” lettering built into the reception desk -- itself a road case -- to the listening station and spotlight in the lobby. Each floor was designed in collaboration with a musician representing a different genre: Rickie Lee Jones for folk, MC Solaar for hip-hop, etc. This fun and whimsical decor attracts the young and young at heart, and the hotel’s location near the Olympia music hall makes it a favorite among concertgoers. The occasional business traveler looking for something different stays here during the week, but guests are largely adults on vacation. With adjoining rooms, the hotel can and does accommodate families with children, but the sex shop across the street probably discourage some.

Location

On a quiet street in the 9th Arrondissement, close to Olympia music hall and the Louvre

The Hôtel du Triangle d'Or is in the heart of the theater and music quarter (thus its music theme). It's on a quiet street, but the few sex shops in the neighborhood can make some guests uncomfortable -- though it is a safe area and not seedy at all. Guests can reach the Garnier Opera Theatre, Place Vendôme, and Printemps department stores on Boulevard Haussmann in under 10 minutes on foot. Also within walking distance is Fauchon, one of the best food stores in Paris. To access other areas of Paris, two metro stations are close by: Madeleine (a two-minute walk) and Opera (a six-minute walk).

  • Eight-minute walk to Palais Garnier, Place d'Opera
  • 11-minute walk to Tuileries Gardens
  • 13 minutes via public transportation to Musee d'Orsay (22-minute walk)
  • 14 minutes via public transportation to the Louvre Museum (20-minute walk)
  • 14 minutes via public transportation to L'Arc de Triomphe
  • 15 minutes via public transportation to Gare Du Nord (Eurostar)
  • 23 minutes via public transportation to Sacre Coeur
  • 26 minutes via public transportation to the Eiffel Tower
  • 26 minutes via public transportation to Notre Dame Cathedral
  • 28-minute drive to Charles de Gaulle International Airport (CDG)
  • 31-minute drive to Orly Airport (ORL)

Rooms

Smallish but stylish rooms with music-themed decor, some with balconies

Huge on style with clever details, rooms at the Hôtel du Triangle d’Or reflect one of the five world musicians enlisted to create them. You might have a djembe drum as a nightstand, an armoire reminiscent of a road case, or a guitar painted on the wall above the bed. Rooms, which are standard-Paris small, come in three categories, differentiated by size and whether or not they have a tiny balcony. Deluxe Rooms can accommodate three people, but Superior Rooms are larger. All come with small desks, armoires for hanging clothes, and folding luggage racks. Technology includes flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, programmable safes, free Wi-Fi, and good audio systems (naturally). Each room has a stocked minibar and powerful AC for summer heat. Bathrooms are clean and bright, with showers or showers over tubs. All have hairdryers and CO Bigelow toiletries, but only Superior Rooms have heated towel racks. Robes and slippers are available on request.

Features

Spa, breakfast buffet, room service, free Wi-Fi, and a meeting room

As a mid-range property, the Hôtel du Triangle d’Or doesn’t overwhelm with amenities. However, it does have a small, attractive spa area downstairs, with stone arches and mosaic tile. Massages are available, and there’s a small steam room (the hotel calls it a hammam). An adequate breakfast buffet, available for a fee, varies but includes bread, pastries, charcuterie, cheese, eggs, cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, fresh orange juice, and coffee and tea. With a piano, a wall hung with hand mirrors of different colors, and a counter made of road cases, the breakfast room exhibits the hotel's signature fun sensibility. Guests can also take breakfast in their rooms without an additional fee, a nice touch. The hotel lacks a restaurant and bar, but drinks and snacks can be ordered through room service, and there are plenty of good restaurants and bars in the neighborhood. A meeting room accommodates up to 20 people, and Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. Small pets are welcome.
