Ahh Paris. That bewitching European capital has stolen many a heart -- and it's no surprise why. Boasting a plethora of museums, monuments, and outstanding examples of architecture, visitors can stroll for hours exploring the hidden nooks and crannies of this sprawling city. Surrounded by such idyllic sites, it's easy to lose yourself -- and your heart -- as you stroll along the Seine, down the Champs-Elysee, or through the halls of the Louvre. And returning to your hotel room does not mean losing that loving feeling. Sweet suites across Paris cater to those in a romantic state of mind. Here are some of our favorites.
The only chateau-hotel in Paris, the upscale Saint James is located on a sprawling property in the wealthy 16th arrondissment. Those looking for a luxurious Parisian stay (and with pockets deep enough to afford it) shouldn't hesitate to book one of the enchanting rooms, which are large by Paris standards and outfitted in plush, jewel-toned fabrics. A feeling of opulent romance extends to the spa, charming terrace, and cozy gourmet restaurant, where couples can canoodle conspicuously. The junior suite, with a lovely chandelier and candle wall sconces, oozes amour. Aptly named, the Hidden Hotel is tucked away on a quaint side street within walking distance to L'Arc de Triumphe. The intimate and eco-friendly hotel has only 23 rooms that each incorporate handmade craftsmanship and natural materials into their design. Small in size, but effortlessly chic, rooms like this junior suite offer canopy beds, open bathrooms with rainfall showerheads, and soft lighting -- which combine to create a romantic and subdued atmosphere. Located in a historic Parisian mansion that was once owned by the Comte de Breteuil, the InterContinental Paris Avenue Marceau doesn't feel anything like the chain hotel it actually is. Its 55 rooms offer stylish boutique design -- rooms are modern and bright, with red accents and black and white ceiling murals. The floor-to-ceiling windows and huge terrace are rarities in Paris that amplify the room's quietly sexy vibe. This elegant boutique located between two of Paris' most famous streets -- the Champs Elysees and Rue du Fauburg Saint Honore -- features an abundance of silks, rich fabrics, hand-painted wallpaper, and furniture from around the globe. The 26 rooms are each uniquely and sumptuously designed with traditional Parisian flair -- even this Single Room is whimsically romantic, though the smaller bed isn't ideal for couples. Thankfully its charm and luxury extends throughout the hotel. The bathrooms are especially impressive. One by the Five offers couples a truly unique Parisian experience wrought with romance in mind. The hotel is literally only one guestroom. Offering scent choices, a "love elixir" cocktail that can be made in the suite's kitchenette, a rose petal-covered levitating bed (it's attached to the wall, but not the floor), and a common area dubbed "the dance floor," the suite is an upscale riff on its cheesy themes. The lighting in the mod bedroom can also be dimmed down so that the ceiling glows with a twinkling starlight effect. Meshing practical amenities with fun touches, Les Jardins de la Ville is a great choice for a couple high design on the mind. Bright pops of color and avant-garde headboards come hand-in-hand with luxurious bathrooms (with walk-in showers and soaking tubs) and free extras like Nespresso machines and on-demand movies -- perfect for slow mornings holed up in the room. The hotel also features a hammam and sauna, beautiful winter garden, and honesty bar in the evenings. The world renowned Hotel Plaza Athenee exudes classic Parisian luxury in a fabulous Golden Triangle location. The Eiffel Suite lives up to its name: views of the stunning piece of architecture from the guestroom will take your breath away. Combined with the suite's luxurious appointments, it will be incredibly difficult to tear yourself away from this little slice of Parisian heaven. Hidden away from the hustle and bustle, this small boutique in Montmartre is perfect for romantics in search of a bit of "lost Paris." Its location on a private, gated lane requires guests to be buzzed into the property -- where they step into a charming terrace that sets the stage for things to come. The eclectic decor is a mix of contemporary and classical, providing interesting and charming intersections of style -- such as this whimsical bedroom whose bold wallpaper is fun and romantic. The hotel's location and lack of traditional amenities might irk some, so just look into the details to see if it fits your particular brand of romance. One of Paris' best rated luxury hotels, the 88-room Hotel Le Bristol first opened its doors in the thick of the Roaring Twenties. Since then, its offerings have only grown more impressive. A sunlit indoor pool, a three-Michelin-star restaurant, and lovely spa featuring a Turkish bath are just some of the luxe amenities awaiting visitors. And the rooms, of course, continue this trend. The honeymoon suite is expansive, with a seating area, bedroom, and truly decadent bathroom. And the view from the balcony can't get much better. This 400-year-old historic property is just steps away from Notre Dame and the Seine. As an older property, the hotel does have its quirks, but don't let its age completely fool you. Rooms, featuring eclectic decor and funky furniture, were designed by French fashion designer Christian LaCroix. This duplex room gets brownie points for its upstairs hideaway replete with views of the cathedral. This is a great pick for the adventurous couple. Evoking quintessential Parisian charm, the Bradford Elysees is an elegant boutique located in the heart of the capital city. Rooms are individually decorated in old Parisian style, but updated with modern amenities like free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and iPod docks. Plus, some rooms, like this one, on the sixth floor may offer views of the Eiffel Tower. Combined with the charming slanted ceilings and classic decor, you'll find yourself swept off your feet before you even know it.
