Guests are free to roam the Flying Saddle Resort's gorgeous seven acres, which include the Snake River and glorious views of the surrounding mountains. As beautiful as the great outdoors are, the hotel's interior leaves something to be desired. Its 172 rooms, though clean and spacious, are extremely basic, with old tube TVs, outdated bedspreads, and blank, harsh white walls. Although facilities, such as the small fitness center and decent-size pool, are pretty basic, the hotel is clean and offers nice conveniences -- there is a liquor store and Steak & Seafood House restaurant on-site. About a 40-minute drive to Jackson Hole, the Flying Saddle Resort is a great place for visitors that aren't looking for much more than simple, cozy accommodations at a secluded spot in the Wyoming wilderness.

A nice choice for families, the Sundial Lodge features rooms and one- to two-bedroom suites with mini-fridges, microwaves, and toasters. Though the somewhat drab lodgelike decor can't compare to that in the more ultra-luxe sister Canyons' hotels, like the Waldorf Astoria, the rooms are large yet cozy, with warm colors and wooden accents (and many rooms have fireplaces). A small heated pool, a rooftop Jacuzzi and a basic fitness center are popular amenities, but those looking for a ski-in/ski-out location may consider the comparable Grand Summit.

This mid-range option in the expensive resort town of Park City features suites and condos, each with a kitchen, laundry facilities, a flat-screen TV, and a fireplace. Because condos are privately owned, the decor and quality of the kitchen appliances varies from room to room, but many have kitschy decor (for example, this western-themed bedspread). The indoor/outdoor pool and game room are nice for families, but concierge service is available only during the winter; be prepared to make your own arrangements during the off-season.

The 131-room Park City Peaks is a budget hotel just a short drive from the slopes in Park City. Rooms have comfy beds and typical chain hotel decor in several shades of beige. The hotel lacks amenities like a fitness center and a spa, but the indoor/outdoor pool and Jacuzzi have mountain views, there is free parking and a free ski valet, and the on-site restaurant and sports bar are convenient spots for a quick bite before hitting the slopes. The numerous freebies -- free breakfast, a free shuttle, and even free hot chocolate delivery -- add value, though some are available only in winter.

This 181-room, mid-range hotel is one of the more affordable in Park City. Though it is a drive from the slopes, a free shuttle bus stops right in front of the hotel, and free parking and Wi-Fi add value. Rooms are large, with empty mini-fridges and flat-screen TVs, but the decor is pretty bland (beige curtains and furniture). Features are few: an outdoor pool and Jacuzzi; small, dated fitness center; the unexceptional Mountain Grill; and a casual bar with little ambiance. Those looking to be closer to the slopes may consider the nearby Silver King Hotel.
