Bottom Line

The upper-middle-range Caledonian offers 11 privately owned one- to three-bedroom condos (the biggest sleeps 10 people) right on Main Street and beside the Park City Mountain ski lift. The individually decorated condos (some are more old-fashioned than others) are spacious and offer extensively equipped kitchens, fireplaces, and balconies (many with hot tubs) with good views. There’s a lodge-like feel to the place, and amenities include a popular steak restaurant, shops, free underground parking, free Wi-Fi, and a free winter-only shuttle to nearby attractions. Note that there’s no breakfast service, pool, spa, or gym (guests get a discount at a nearby sports club). The Silver King Hotel offers a similar setup, plus an on-site pool and gym, at lower rates.

Oyster Hotel Review

The Caledonian

Scene

Condo setup with homey, lodge-like vibe, but some old-fashioned decor

There’s a lodge-like feel at The Calendonian, a simple enough but comfortable condo option that will appeal to families and large groups looking for a homey spot to rest their heads between ski runs. The attractive, wide-fronted property features a fairly elegant lobby, even if it’s on the dated side overall. There’s beige-brown tiled flooring, and dry-stone brick-effect accent walls. Other walls are cream with dark-wood paneling, and feature old-fashioned framed prints. Chunky brown leather armchairs and sofas add a cozy vibe, but outdated white ceiling tiles are perhaps the least attractive element. The small and simple but handsome reception desk has dark-wood frontage and a black countertop, and wide but generic hallways sport brown-beige hospitality carpets, and cream walls with more half-height dark-wood paneling.

Rooms

Spacious, individually owned condo units with extensively equipped kitchens and some private hot tubs

The Caledonian’s 11 air-conditioned one- to three-bedroom condos (including some duplexes) are all privately owned and individually decorated. Deluxe Suites tend to sport more up-to-date furniture and amenities than Standard Suites as some of these units have decor that’s on the dated side. But all condos are spacious and feature large bedrooms, lounges with gas fireplaces, and extensively equipped kitchens (many with stoves, ovens, double refrigerator-freezers, dishwashers, microwaves, coffeemakers, and toasters, plus cooking equipment and counter space). The One-Bedroom Condo we saw when we visited was bright and attractive, with a cozy, homey feel that continues the lodge-like vibe elsewhere in the hotel. There are also simply furnished balconies with good town or mountain views, many with private hot tubs -- a real perk.

Spacious bathrooms feature whirlpool tubs, and many also have large shower stalls with fixed showerheads, as well as additional separate toilets. Other standard amenities include flat-screen cable TVs with DVD or VCR players, free Wi-Fi, laundry machines, irons, and ironing boards. The largest condos reach 2,250 square feet (209 square meters) and sleep 10 people, making them perfect for families and groups. Elevators and rooms are accessed via secure PIN codes. Daily housekeeping is provided.
