For families and business travelers who want beyond the basics in their mid-range hotel chain, the Marriott Providence Downtown offers more than most -- free parking, a variety of bonuses (spa, indoor/outdoor pool, fitness center, restaurant and bars, and business center), and comfortable rooms with nice modern features (flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi). The price is slightly steeper than at the nearby Courtyard by Marriott Downtown, but that hotel's features offering isn't nearly as complete.

Courtyard Providence Downtown is a mid-range chain hotel in a prime -- you guessed it -- downtown Providence location. It’s a dependable hotel that delivers clean, comfortable beds at a reasonable rate. The indoor pool and whirlpool are excellent additions for families, as is the on-site restaurant, The Bistro, open for breakfast and dinner.

Hampton Inn & Suites Providence Downtown Rating: 2.5 Pearls
It may be a chain hotel, but Hampton Inn & Suites Providence Downtown still has personality and character, thanks in part to its historic building. With a free daily breakfast, modern features (including flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and a fully equipped fitness center), and a central location in downtown Providence, you'll get a lot of bang for your buck here. Plus, suites come with microwaves, mini-fridges, and pull-out couches. There's plenty for both business travelers and families to like, but there's no pool -- unlike at the nearby Courtyard by Marriott. Though the Best Western Plus Providence does have a pool, the Hampton Inn & Suites ranks higher for its superior location.

Best Western Plus Providence - Seekonk Inn Rating: 2.5 Pearls
For its budget-friendly price, Best Western Seekonk has clean rooms, a heated indoor pool (great for kids, especially during New England winters), a fitness center, and a free daily breakfast. Decor is what you'd expect (standard drab-chain getup), and for the most part amenities are no-frills -- though the in-room microwave and mini-fridge are a bonus for families. Although there is no restaurant on the property, the location on busy commercial Route 6 is near chain restaurants galore.
