Oyster Review Summary

Photos and Review by Oyster.com Investigators

Pros

  • Cute, colorful casitas with Caribbean style
  • Pristine beaches and water sports on a 100-acre private island
  • Infinity pool overlooking the ocean
  • Beautiful grounds with lush grass, palm trees, and tropical plants
  • 4 fine dining restaurants, 9 casual restaurants, and 4 bars (shared with El Conquistador); all-inclusive meal option available
  • 4 to-go food and drink venues, including a Starbucks
  • Family-friendly water park at sister resort El Conquistador
  • Luxurious Golden Door Spa on-site
  • Free Wi-Fi

Cons

  • Beach only accessible by ferry
  • Expensive food
  • Pricey taxi ride to airport
  • Need a rental car to see attractions

Bottom Line

The grounds of this Waldorf Astoria resort are beautiful, with spectacular fountains and foliage, but sprawling -- so bring your walking shoes. Big rooms have light, airy color schemes, large balconies, and stunning views of the hotel's lush grounds. Each of the 234 rooms is conveniently stocked with free coffee and water, and some even have up-to-date kitchenettes, which provide an alternative to the pricey on-site restaurants. The nearby beach is only accessible by ferry, but large, well-maintained pools come with views of the ocean, and the neighboring El Conquistador Resort's Coqui Water Park, with multiple slides and lazy rivers, is a great option for the family.

Oyster Hotel Review

 Location

Beautiful ocean views along the northeastern coast of Puerto Rico, but no direct beach access

Perched on a cliff in northeastern Puerto Rico overlooking the sea, Las Casitas Village has a remote locale just a 10-minute drive from restaurants and shops in Fajardo. Although a beach isn't on-site, a ferry takes visitors out to an island that's great for swimming and snorkeling.

Fajardo is known for its seafood and proximity to the small Palomino Islands (the resort's 100-acre island is the largest of these). Many local companies host day trips to Culebra and Vieques for snorkeling and scuba diving. Surrounded by calm waters that are crystal clear, Fajardo is a superb destination for snorkelers and divers. For years, boating has also been a popular activity in the region.

  • 1-hour drive to Luis Munoz Marin International Airport
  • 8-minute ferry ride to Palomino Island
  • 5-minute drive to swimming in a bioluminescent bay at Cabezas Nature reserve
  • 5-minute drive to Las Cabezas Lighthouse
  • 10-minute drive to Ventajero Sailing
  • 30-minute drive to El Portal Rain Forest Center in El Yunque National Forest
  • 1-hour drive to El Morro and Fort San Cristobal in Old San Juan
  • 2-hour drive to Arecibo Observatory, home of the world's largest radio telescope (as seen in the films Goldeneye and Contact)
  • 2-hour and 45 minute drive to world famous surfing in Rincon
