A sprawling adult-only all-inclusive
This sprawling, 450-acre resort will give walkers an opportunity to exercise their legs; otherwise, guests can jump on one of the many golf carts scooting from one end of the property to the other (these free rides are a good way to experience the manicured grounds). The mile-long sandy beach is rocky and not ideal for swimming, but still suitable for games, strolling, and dining (romantic candlelit dinners are possible).
When in need of an escape, the tour desk arranges off-site excursions, or guests can take a shuttle service to visit Playa del Carmen (though the schedule may be limited and reservations are required).
An all-inclusive resort along the beautiful Riviera Maya -- just south of central Cancun
The El Dorado Royale is along the Riviera Maya, closer to the town of Playa del Carmen than Cancun. The Riviera Maya is famous for its large resorts and smaller boutique hotels, as well as the many fine-dining restaurants. The area contains mostly all-inclusive, self-contained resorts, and this one in particular is geared toward adults on a romantic getaway. Visitors don't come to this part of the Riviera Maya for the sights -- there are none -- however, the resort does arrange day trips and excursions. There is a shuttle to Cancun, as well. To get a feel for local flavor, head to the culture-rich downtown area (known as Ciudad Cancun), which is a drive away.
The El Dorado Royale is an adults-only resort with a whopping 450 acres of tropical jungle along the Riviera Maya. There are 13 pools in total -- an important aspect, as the ocean bottom is too rocky for most to enjoy. The resort calls itself a "gourmet" all-inclusive, and offers a dizzying array of restaurants (all with dress codes), as well as bars, nightlife, spa treatments, and on-site activities. There are three total sister properties in this area, and the Royale is the most basic -- though rooms still feel luxurious with balconies or terraces, walk-in showers, whirlpool tubs, bathrobes, and stocked minibars. The resort is attached to the newer Casitas section which has additional amenities such as outdoor showers and private plunge pools.
