Add CommentI chuckled at the comment and photo for the wooden block by the window. The Palace is old and the windows open, but I have never stayed in a room where the window will stay open. They are extremely heavy windows that must be lifted and will slide closed if not propped open.
I have dented a couple of telephone books and bibles to prop the windows open at the Palace Hotel. Too bad my rooms never had a wooden block available.
Hi Ric - Since you've enlightened us about the role of the wooden block (thank you!), we've removed our review's bullet about not knowing why it was on our windowsill. (The photo, however, is still in our album: http://www.oyster.com/san-francisco/hotels/palace-hotel/photos/superior-room-king-bed--palace-hotel-v545745/). We're so glad you helped us figure out why it was there!
The wooden block is highly functional for open windows
