Bottom Line

This 104-room business hotel is located in the Providencia neighborhood on a busy tree-lined street. The lobby suggests classic elegance with gilded ceilings and ornately decorated chairs, though the overall decor is slightly dated. The rooms are on the small side and a bit cramped, though suites have separate living rooms. They're well-appointed, though a bit dowdy, with throw rugs on top of gray carpets (most need to be steamed). Each room is equipped with an iPod dock, DVD player, and flat-screen TV, but little else about the rooms feels updated or modern. Bathrooms are long and narrow with shower/tub combos. The small on-site restaurant, Park Lane, features dark furnishings and decorated ceilings, with outdoor seating. Visitors can utilize the fitness center, but it's small and only has a few pieces of equipment. The top-level pool looks out on the city through a vaulted glass canopy. Overall, the hotel is in a nice location that's especially convenient for business travelers, but to appeal to a wider range of visitors, a major overhaul is in order.

Park Plaza

Location

In Providencia, near popular nightlife, but not within walking distance of most tourist sights

Providencia, found in the northern central part of Santiago, has many high-rise apartments, as well as old elegant houses. It also contains Barrio Suecia, a neighborhood brimming with pubs and nightclubs, and Barrio Bellavista, home to many bohemian artists, hip boutiques, and art galleries. Within its borders are the embassies for China, Russia, and Italy, and the Cerro San Cristobal, the famous tall hill that towers above the entire city.

Though the city has had a storied past, marked by battles over colonialism and freedom, present-day Santiago is a bustling, loud, ever-growing and ever-evolving metropolis populated with nearly seven million people. Aside from being the political and economic center of Chile, it is also fast becoming the country's hub for arts, entertainment, food and drink, and culture. The dynamic city is dotted with museums, theaters, bars, and different vibrant neighborhoods that cater to various crowds, such as the bohemian artists, culinary elite, and politicians. What makes this urban center especially unique is the fact that it's surrounded by the beautiful, glistening snow-capped Andes Mountains. Although Santiago has had a problem with smog and air pollution, it's still difficult not to be impressed by this stunning natural backdrop.

  • 30-minute drive to Los Cerrillos Airport
  • 36-minute drive to Arturo Merino Benitez Airport
  • 12-minute drive to Plaza des Armas
  • 5-minute drive to Providencia
  • 6- to 8-minute drive to several metro stations
  • 8-minute drive to Nunoa
  • 12-minute drive to La Chascona
  • 12-minute drive to Municipal Theatre of Santiago
  • 12-minute drive to Museo de Arte Contemporaneo
  • 14-minute drive to Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino
  • 14-minute drive to Plaza de la Ciudadania
  • 14-minute drive to Casa Colorada
  • 15-minute drive to Mercado Central de Santiago
