Comfort Suites Historic District

Situated on the edge of Savannah’s historic district, the Comfort Suites Historic District is a standard chain hotel that’s geared toward budget-minded tourists, particularly attracting an older clientele and military veterans with its priority vet parking spaces. The interiors are pleasant, if a bit bland, with contemporary decor; the inviting lobby lounge area is filled with modern furniture and a geometric rug, which pair well with the cozy fireplace and lovely hammered copper ceiling. Several potted plants provide fresh bursts of green to a neutral color palette that favors whites and grays. The breakfast room is fairly standard and a typical, chain-like space with wooden furnishings and floors accented by a blue wall. The indoor pool has a cabin charm to it, surrounded by wood panel walls and ceilings, and white Adirondack chairs.

The hotel is on a busy street that’s two blocks from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, the west border of Savannah’s historic district. The popular River Street, lined with shops, restaurants, and galleries, is also two blocks away and other sights that are within walking distance include Savannah’s City Market (ten minutes away) and the Savannah History Museum (15 minutes). Guests can also utilize the free hotel shuttle that goes to the historic district or one of the city's free shuttles that stops nearby at the JMR Transit Center (six-minute walk). Many other sights are a short drive away, including the Savannah College of Art and Design (18-minute drive), the Savannah Theatre (five-minute drive), and the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist (seven-minute drive). The Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport is 20 minutes away.

This all-suite hotel features standard, classic furnishings typical of chain hotels, including brown patterned carpeting, wooden furniture, white or cream-colored bedspreads, and olive green sofa beds in the living rooms. The spaces are pleasant and comfortable, if a bit bland and lacking character. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, writing desks, mini-fridges, microwaves, and free Wi-Fi; some have wet bars. Most rooms have lackluster views over the parking lot. Plain, tiled bathrooms have shower/tub combos and large black granite top vanities with ample storage space.

The Comfort Suites Historic District is a small hotel, but it’s equipped with a nice range of facilities and conveniences. The homey breakfast room offers a flat-screen TV and buffet counters with coffee dispensers, a toaster, a microwave, and waffle makers (breakfast is included in the room rate). There's also an indoor pool with a hot tub, as well as a tiny fitness center that's limited to three machines. Coin-operated laundry facilities are available for guest use, and there are also vending and ice machines. The hotel's meeting room accommodates up to 17 people and there's a business center as well. A shuttle van provides guests with free round-trip service to anywhere in Savannah’s historic district. Parking is available, though with an added fee, and there are designated parking space for military veterans as well as a motorcycle wash area.
