Calistoga Ranch, An Auberge Resort

Calistoga Ranch, An Auberge Resort Rating: 5.0 Pearls

It's no wonder royalty, A-list celebrities, and athletes keep returning to the luxury Calistoga Ranch: It's in a class all by itself. Guests rent exquisite private lodges, set on a private 157-acre park-like property complete with hiking trails and a top-of-the-line restaurant and spa. Attention to detail carries over from room design to landscape planning -- all modules for the lodges were flown in by helicopter to minimize impact on surrounding trees and to maximize privacy. The property boasts plenty of activities, including outdoor yoga, a beautiful heated outdoor pool, a bocce court, a fabulous fitness center, and wine tasting seminars. If guests decide to venture out for some reason, they can easily access downtown Calistoga and other towns with not only loaner bikes, but loaner Mercedes-Benzes! This property stands out as one of the most remarkable not just in Napa Valley but in the entire country.
Indian Springs Resort and Spa

Indian Springs Resort and Spa Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The four-pearl Indian Springs Resort and Spa is located at the northern end of Napa Valley on 16 acres of gardens, hills, and ponds. There are four thermal geysers, mud baths, and beautiful palm trees and ponds throughout the property. The main pool is one of California's largest and uses mineral water from the hotel's own geysers. There is also an adult pool and a luxurious spa. Over 100 rooms are available in bungalows, lodges, and private homes, with modern amenities and cozy balconies or patios.
Solage Calistoga

Solage Calistoga Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Located in the picturesque area of Northern Napa Valley, Solage Calistoga is an ultra-chic, modern property featuring 89 separate bungalow homes with semi-private patios. The upscale, contemporary atmosphere exists throughout the hotel: Studios and suites all have high-vaulted ceilings and polished cement floors, and some -- such as the Capella Suite -- even have gas fireplaces, which add a warm touch to what some might consider cold decor. Bathrooms are clean, with sleek finishes, large soaking tubs, and walk-in showers with rainfall showerheads. The on-site restaurant, Solbar, is Michelin-starred, and features outdoor lounge seating shaded by trees and centered around a long water feature with a fire pit. There are two pools, as well as private cabanas and a poolside foosball table. Other perks include use of a loaner Mercedes-Benz SUV, or the modern, well-sized fitness center that has outdoor equipment. The hotel can experience noise from on-site events, but Solage Calistoga is ultimately an understated, peaceful getaway.
Mount View Hotel & Spa

Mount View Hotel & Spa Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The remodeled rooms, suites, and cottages at the Mount View Hotel & Spa have a boutique feel, with hip, trendy accents mixed with dark sleek furniture. But beware: The rooms (and baths) are a little on the small side for an upper-middle-range hotel. The connected restaurant and wine bar are always lively, and the hotel's location in the heart of charming Calistoga puts guests within walking distance of plenty of action -- or, if you prefer, you can relax at the hotel's full-service spa. Just don't expect breathtaking views -- you won't be in the middle of a scenic vineyard. You're more likely to be looking at a parking lot.
EuroSpa & Inn

EuroSpa & Inn Rating: 3.0 Pearls

This mid-range converted motel is a 5-minute walk from downtown Calistoga, and offers 13 big (if slightly plain) rooms, with microwaves, mini-fridges, wet bars, and gas fireplaces. It's hardly luxurious, but it does have a quaint, B&B feel, solid freebies (free breakfast, free Wi-Fi), a spa, and a small but lovely pool.
Best Western Plus Stevenson Manor Inn

Best Western Plus Stevenson Manor Inn Rating: 3.0 Pearls

While the Best Western Plus Stevenson Manor Inn is more about value than luxury, the 34 rooms are clean and spacious, with modern amenities such as iPod docks and flat-screen TVs, as well as contemporary decor -- mostly in tan, chocolate, gray, and cream hues. The main areas of the hotel, including the simple pool and tiny breakfast area are nothing to write home about. It's the convenient location of this hotel that's the real draw here -- walking to downtown Calistoga or driving to wineries in St. Helena and along the Silverado Trail is a breeze.
