Travaasa Hana, Maui

Travaasa Hana, Maui Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Distance: 8.4 mi from Hana - Hawaii

The Travaasa Hana, Maui overlooking Hana Bay delivers rustic luxury in the middle of Maui's lush, secluded east coast. Incredible service, top spa, excellent food, a long list of stuff to do, and only 70 rooms on acres of uncrowded property. The rooms are large, clean, sleekly furnished -- and stripped of TVs, air conditioners, clocks, and radios. Hard to reach unless you fly, but worth the trip.

Maui Coast Hotel

Maui Coast Hotel Rating: 3.0 Pearls

Distance: 23.7 mi from Hana - Hawaii

A great value pick for Maui's South Shore, the 265-room Maui Coast has clean rooms, tennis courts that stay open late, free laundry facilities, and a fun poolside bar with live music at night. But the closest beach is a five-minute walk away, and guests will likely want to head into town for a good meal.

Aston Maui Hill

Aston Maui Hill Rating: 2.0 Pearls

Distance: 23.7 mi from Hana - Hawaii

The Aston Maui Hill's 140 apartments, while neither modern nor stylish, are spacious enough to sleep a family or other group. The pool is small, there's no fitness center, and the popular beaches are across a busy street. But you'd be hard-pressed to find a condo for this low a price anywhere else in Maui.

Hotel Wailea

Hotel Wailea Rating: 2.5 Pearls

Distance: 23.9 mi from Hana - Hawaii

More affordable than most hotels in upscale Wailea (where rain rarely falls), Hotel Wailea isn't directly on the beach, but its 72 kitchenette-equipped, one-bedroom suites cost considerably less than a more traditional guest room at most of the nearby resorts. Plus, Maui's best beaches, retail shops, and golf courses are just a 10-minute drive away.

Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort

Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort Rating: 4.5 Pearls

Distance: 24.1 mi from Hana - Hawaii

The beautifully designed, 780-room Grand Wailea is awe-inspiring in its scale: It's got the best pool in Hawaii, one of the top U.S. spas, and a prime location on one of the best U.S. beaches. Opulence marks every feature -- from the luxe rooms to the massive gym -- but the resort's Disneyland-like vibe isn't right for everyone.

Marriott Wailea Resort

Marriott Wailea Resort Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Distance: 24.2 mi from Hana - Hawaii

Situated on a rock between two beaches, the 22-acre, 546-room Wailea Marriott has panoramic ocean views and a serene vibe missing from some of the more crowded, neighboring resorts. Renovated in 2008, the Marriott's spiffy rooms, gorgeous adult-only infinity pool, reputable spa, and a popular restaurant make it the best midrange option in ritzy Wailea.

The Fairmont Kea Lani Maui

The Fairmont Kea Lani Maui Rating: 4.5 Pearls

Distance: 24.4 mi from Hana - Hawaii

Wailea's aptly named Fairmont Kea Lani is a "white heaven" indeed -- its 450 units sit on a 22-acre beachfront property that includes four pools, four restaurants and one lounge, access to world-class golf, some of Maui's largest rooms, and a relentless dedication to service that rivals the nearby Four Seasons.

Four Seasons Maui

Four Seasons Maui Rating: 5.0 Pearls

Distance: 24.4 mi from Hana - Hawaii

This gorgeous, 380-room luxury property fronting Wailea beach is one of the top resorts on Maui. It's incredibly romantic; couples and honeymooners will likely appreciate the spa and spectacular adults-only infinity pool (though sun loungers go fast). But families will find a ton to like a well, including a kid's activity club and pool, and tons of free equipment for the beach such as snorkel gear and volleyballs. Rooms are spacious with soaking bathtubs and some outstanding views of the Pacific. Dining is expensive and breakfast isn't included with the price of a room, but restaurants like Spago by Wolfgang Puck are probably worth the cost. The resort also provides plenty of freebies, including kids' club access and snorkel gear. Just be prepared for crowds at the lobby, pools, and beach.

Makena Beach and Golf Resort

Makena Beach and Golf Resort Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Distance: 25.3 mi from Hana - Hawaii

Makena Beach and Golf Resort is an upscale property with a laid-back vibe on family friendly Maluaka Beach. Rooms have (some) private lanais overlooking the ocean, cherry wood furniture, and granite vanities in the bathrooms. The rates here are lower than what you'll find at nearby luxury resorts, but the swimming pool is much smaller. Still, there's off-the-beach snorkeling, three restaurants, a golf course, and weekly luau here -- plus free oceanfront yoga and a spacious fitness center. The Hawaiian Rain Forest spa helps make this hotel an attractive option for honeymooners and couples. There's no resort fee and lots of free extras like parking, Wi-Fi, and resort activities, so guests won't feel nickel and dimed. It may be worth comparing rates at nearby four-pearl Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa for many of the same features, though you'll pay for parking and Wi-Fi there.

Hyatt Regency Maui Resort And Spa

Hyatt Regency Maui Resort And Spa Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Distance: 37.6 mi from Hana - Hawaii

One of the two top powerhouse resorts on Kaanapali Beach, the Hyatt Regency rivals the Westin Maui with its seemingly endless amenities, restaurants, massive pool complex, modern rooms, and nightly luaus. It's all but a toss-up between the two, save for the Hyatt's narrower, less-desireable stretch of beach.
