The Resort at Pelican Hill

The Resort at Pelican Hill Rating: 5.0 Pearls

The ultra-luxe Pelican Hill is a sprawling, immaculately kept resort (500 acres!) with two golf courses, a 23,000-square-foot spa, two pools, five restaurants, and 332 bungalows and villas. The rooms are large, with top-notch technology (although the absence of iPod docks is surprising) and beige decor (of the upscale variety, not the bland kind). All rooms feature large marble bathrooms, fireplaces, and terraces, many with ocean views, but the villas are where things get uber-fancy. All villas have fully equipped kitchens, huge living spaces, and are attended to by a private staff. Guests staying in villas also get access to a separate clubhouse with a pool and fitness center. One downside to the size of the property is that guests have to take the resort's shuttle to get around, but it's hard to find many other faults with this luxury hotel.

The St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort

The St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort Rating: 4.5 Pearls

The sprawling St. Regis Monarch Beach is situated on a beautiful golf course overlooking the Pacific Ocean. With elegant, comfortable rooms, large, beautiful bathrooms, and stunning grounds, it's easily one of the nicest hotels in Orange County. But it's one-and-a-half miles from the beach, so guests who want to be closer to the sand should consider the nearby Montage.

Montage Laguna Beach

Montage Laguna Beach Rating: 4.5 Pearls

With beautiful grounds, an elegant spa, and modern rooms (all of which have stunning views of the ocean), this hotel is possibly the most serene and relaxing in Orange County, California. It's perched directly above the beach, and the building's "U" shape allows for breathtaking views from the lobby and all pools, restaurants, and guest rooms.

The Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel

The Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This 396-room luxury hotel sits atop a 150-foot bluff that’s up against a beach, which means breathtaking views from the hotel and grounds, plus a place to surf and boogie board below. With two large pools, a wine bar, and the elegant Raya restaurant, this Ritz has all of the amenities of a big, upscale resort, but with a quiet, relaxing setting.

Hotel Menage

Hotel Menage Rating: 3.5 Pearls

With modern touches and contemporary furnishings, the mid-range Hotel Menage strives to offer an upscale experience at a budget price, and does a fairly good job at it. Its location near the Disney Parks and the Anaheim Garden Walk makes it convenient for families and leisure travelers, and extra touches such as free Wi-Fi, an on-site restaurant and bar, a stylish business center, and a variety of meeting spaces and ballrooms add value for business travelers. All rooms are spacious, especially the extra-large family suites. Some of the rooms and public areas feel a bit worn, and some past guests have complained that the Wi-Fi signal in rooms is weak.

The Anabella

The Anabella Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Catering to families looking for a spa experience as well as business travelers in town for local conventions, the Anabella is right next to the Anaheim Convention Center and a short drive to Disneyland and the California Adventure Park. The 358 rooms here range from standards to suites, and all have free Wi-Fi and classic, muted decor. There are two pools on the property, one of which is a designated quiet space, as well as a whirlpool and a restaurant serving everything from children's snacks to cocktails. The hotel is equally popular with business travelers and families, but those wanting something closer to Disneyland may prefer the Carousel Inn and Suites, just across the street from the theme park's main gates.

Wyndham Anaheim Garden Grove

Wyndham Anaheim Garden Grove Rating: 3.5 Pearls

A large upper-middle-range property with 376 spacious rooms, the Wyndham Anaheim Garden Grove (formerly the Crowne Plaza) features multiple dining options, free shuttles to nearby attractions, and beautiful outdoor spaces. There's a wide variety of room types to suit families, groups, couples, and business travelers, and the hotel offers three floors of designated quiet areas for travelers who want some extra peace and privacy. There's a daily resort fee that covers parking, Wi-Fi, and access to the pool and fitness center.

Hotel Pepper Tree

Hotel Pepper Tree Rating: 3.0 Pearls

Geared toward Anaheim visitors who want their own en-suite kitchen, the mid-range Pepper Tree is an affordable option a short drive from the Disney Parks, the Anaheim Convention Center, and Knott's Berry Farm. It's across the street from a supermarket and all rooms come with kitchens, making it a good choice for people wanting to do their own cooking. It is a bit too far to walk to Disneyland and the California Adventure Park; guests wanting to be closer to the parks may prefer one of the closer properties, such as the Carousel Inn and Suites.

Peacock Suites

Peacock Suites Rating: 3.0 Pearls

As the name suggests, Anaheim's Peacock Suites is an all-suite property. Rooms sleep four to six and are decorated in bright reds, oranges, and browns with peacock feather motifs. There's plenty on-site for children, including a pool, a play fountain, and a game area, complete with arcade games and foosball. The property is near the Anaheim Convention Center and while there's free Wi-Fi, its general lack of business facilities make it a more popular choice with families than with corporate travelers. Those in town on business may prefer the Hotel Menage, which had a more equal balance between business and leisure travelers.

Desert Palms Hotel & Suites

Desert Palms Hotel & Suites Rating: 3.0 Pearls

The colorful and contemporary Desert Palms Hotel & Suites is popular with families and business travelers alike. Featuring 196 rooms, including 42 suites with separate rooms for children, this property is located a short walk from Disneyland, the Disney Adventure Park, and the Anaheim Convention Center. Conveniences include free Wi-Fi, parking, and breakfast, and a business center. It's a great value for a mid-range hotel, but its proximity to nearby theme parks means that guests should expect some noise from kids.
