Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay

Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The Grand Hyatt is essentially an airport hotel that caters to business travelers, but its lovely location on a 35-acre nature preserve makes it feel more like a resort. Highlights include two pools with bar service, three restaurants, two tennis courts, a 24-hour fitness center, and an artificial beach with ping-pong tables, lounge chairs, and a fire pit. About 10 percent of the hotel’s 442 guestrooms are private casitas, clustered in a mini-community that's accessible through a mangrove forest. Guests looking for a slightly cheaper alternative should try the nearby DoubleTree by Hilton, which has similar rooms and free Wi-Fi, but fewer amenities and dining options.
Emerald Greens Condo-Hotel

Emerald Greens Condo-Hotel Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Emerald Greens Condo-Hotel is a 50-room upper-mid-range property nestled on the grounds of Carrollwood Country Club. The resort is a good choice for golfers, from rookies to pros, who have access to three nine-hole championship golf courses. A large swimming pool, family activities, and discounts to a water park keep the rest of the family happy. Rooms are clean and spacious with full kitchens (although views aren't great), and grounds are well-manicured. It's within a half hour's drive of many Tampa Bay attractions and there are two on-site restaurants for those who don't want to explore the area.
Sheraton Tampa Riverwalk Hotel

Sheraton Tampa Riverwalk Hotel Rating: 3.5 Pearls

This 293-room Sheraton isn’t exactly luxurious, but the outdoor pool and views of the Hillsborough River still make this hotel a good bargain in downtown Tampa. Despite renovations in 2008, much of the decor still feels dated and worn out, and a full overhaul is scheduled for 2013tag:revisit 12/1/2013. The hotel has a central location and free shuttle service, which makes for easy access to restaurants and downtown attractions. Those willing to pay for a more polished hotel should try the Marriott Waterside Hotel & Marina, located three blocks down the river.
Sailport Waterfront Suites

Sailport Waterfront Suites Rating: 3.0 Pearls

Sailport Waterfront Suites is a 191-room mid-range hotel located near the airport on Tampa bay. There's a modest and rocky bay beach, but the gulf beaches are about a half-hour's drive away. Rooms are clean, comfortable and modern, with full kitchens, and many offer views of the water. Overall, it offers a solid value with amenities such as a small pool, a sunset deck, and BBQ grills, but there's no full restaurant and the fitness facilities are located outside.
Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites New Tampa I-75 Bruce B. Downs

Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites New Tampa I-75 Bruce B. Downs Rating: 3.0 Pearls

The Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites is a 100-room hotel located in a suburban area called New Tampa. While the location is unremarkable (near a strip mall), the hotel is one of the closest options (less than eight miles) from Busch Gardens. The beaches, city center, airport, and other tourist destinations, however, are quite far from this property. Rooms are clean and function, and amenities -- which include free breakfast and ice cream at night -- are pretty standard for the brand, but nice perks nonetheless.
