Sole East

Sole East Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This American Tudor-style hotel in Montauk is a summer hot spot that maintains an essence of “cool” without pretension. The 61 rooms and suites have a surf-chic vibe and appeal to the Manhattan set with amenities such as high-quality linens and Aveda products. Though not directly on the beach, expansive grounds include lawn games, daybeds, hammocks and an organic restaurant and bar. The outdoor pool -- with live music on weekends -- is popular, and the party scene has been known to carry on until the wee hours of the morning.
Capri Southampton

Capri Southampton Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This 24-room boutique hotel in Southampton is geared toward the cool crowd with its famed restaurant and designer duds sold on-site. Live DJs keep the pool party scene going until late hours on Friday and Saturday -- but the place becomes an oasis of calm midweek. Rooms are expensive, but they aren’t the main draw; instead, steep prices give you direct access to a see-and-be-seen summer crowd (it's only open from May through September). But you'll have to drive to the beach, and the restaurants and shops in Southampton are a long walk away.
The Mill House Inn

The Mill House Inn Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This historic home turned bed and breakfast in East Hampton is meticulously maintained and decorated. Although it's just a short walk from the village center, it remains a hidden gem that stays open year-round. The owners, Gary and Sylvia, have included their personal touches in the 10 rooms and suites, right down to the stuffed Gordon Setters on each bed and photography on the walls. The location is not directly on the beach and rooms come at a high price, but the top-notch breakfast and easy walk to restaurants and shops make it a stand-out option.
The East Hampton Art House Bed & Breakfast

The East Hampton Art House Bed & Breakfast Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This elegant B&B in East Hampton is exactly what its name suggests: a house full of art. It was designed and decorated by the owners, Michael and Rosalind, who combine mutual talents in art and hospitality. There are only four rooms for rent, but there are all the amenities of a larger property, including endless communal spaces, an outdoor pool, and fitness center. Although big in scope, the Art House retains all of the personalized charm of staying with friends, making it a distinctive option in the Hamptons -- though it comes at a high price.
Panoramic View

Panoramic View Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This sprawling resort tucked away on scenic Old Montauk Highway takes the word "panoramic" seriously: Every room comes with a direct ocean view and private patio or balcony. The 10-acre site is situated on a hillside and includes pretty walkways, an outdoor pool, state-of-the-art fitness center, and private beach access. Rooms are large and lovely, and amenities are plentiful -- but you’ll need a car to get to restaurants and nightlife.
C/O The Maidstone

C/O The Maidstone Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This historic yet chic property in the center of East Hampton appeals to the stylish Hamptonite crowd with 16 rooms/suites, and three cottages decorated in Scandinavian design. Owned by a Swedish entrepreneur with 20 hotels around the world, this one is just steps from the village and a bike ride to the beach (with free beach cruiser loaners available). The pretty front porch, trendy restaurant, and distinct amenities (such as doggie menus and yoga classes in the Buddha garden) make this a popular choice for those who have money to spend.
Ocean Dunes Resort & Residences

Ocean Dunes Resort & Residences Rating: 3.5 Pearls

This condo beach property has 32 units in a two-story, motel-style building, surrounded by flower boxes, and property high points include the outdoor pool, private beach access, and location within walking distance of the hamlet of Amagansett. All units come with a kitchen, though they range in modernity and decor (with some pushing the dated-and-dowdy limits, and others crossing the line of colorful contemporary). If private Amagansett beachfront is what you want, Ocean Dunes is your only bet.
The Hedges Inn

The Hedges Inn Rating: 3.5 Pearls

This charming East Hampton inn is a cozy gem. Built in 1870, it still retains its original Victorian charm while also offering modern comforts such as free Wi-Fi, contemporary bathrooms, and flat-screen TVs. With a total of 12 unique rooms, decorated mostly in calming and seaside-appropriate whites and blues, this hotel has several inviting common spaces, including a sunny breakfast room/bar and a bright den area with a computer and jars of sweet treats. A perfectly manicured garden has an expansive terrace and the lobby has a fireplace. The homemade free daily breakfast is creative and top-notch, served with pride by the caring staff.
Sea Crest on the Ocean

Sea Crest on the Ocean Rating: 3.0 Pearls

Smack dab between Amagansett and Montauk, the Sea Crest on the Ocean resort is a two-level condo property containing studio, one-, two-, or three-bedroom units. Studios contain efficiency kitchens, and all others have full kitchens. Units vary greatly in decor depending on owner, so ask for a description when booking. The main attraction here is the easy and free access to the beach, but additional highlights include the outdoor pool, charcoal grills, and tennis courts. Located just off the Highway 27 artery, a car is needed to reach local restaurants and attractions (and there's no restaurant on-site). Second-floor rooms are more likely to have a view of the ocean.
Montauk Yacht Club Resort & Marina

Montauk Yacht Club Resort & Marina Rating: 3.0 Pearls

This family-friendly resort has a variety of renovated rooms, suites, and villas overlooking Lake Montauk. The views take advantage of the attached marina, bobbing with boats galore, and are crowned by a white lighthouse. The resort has more than 80 years of intriguing history, and rooms are pricey but nicely decorated in nautical style. Though the location is not directly on the ocean, on-site activities and restaurants, and the free shuttles to town make it a draw for an amenities-filled Hamptons getaway.
