Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino

Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Located in the bustling cruise-ship center of Oranjestad, the modern, upscale 556-room Renaissance hotel (a Marriott property) offers an exceptional casino (one of Aruba's best) and its own private island (an alternative to a beach). It might not feel exotic -- it's attached to a shopping mall -- but it has great food and retail fun.

Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino

Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino Rating: 4.0 Pearls

A comfortable, modern getaway for families with a great pool, gym, spa, and casino, the Marriott Resort is fancier than its only neighbors, the Marriott Surf Club and the Marriott Ocean Club. This Marriott is a bit farther from the airport than most Aruban resorts, but it's only a three-minute walk to the High Rise complex.

Marriott's Aruba Surf Club

Marriott's Aruba Surf Club Rating: 4.0 Pearls

One of 3 beachside Marriott resorts side-by-side, the safe, family-oriented Surf Club has clean, comfortable rooms, an excellent gym, a huge waterslide, a teen lounge with Nintendo Wii video games, and the winding "Lazy River" pool (possibly the best pool in Aruba). On-site dining is limited, but excellent restaurants are just a short walk away.

Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort and Casino

Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort and Casino Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Gorgeous pools, a reliable kids club, and a soft-sand beach in a modern hotel near the High-Rise shopping/dining/drinking complex -- the Hyatt is virtually flawless, even if it does lack local charm. Rooms are clean and modern, and have flat-screen TVs, excellent beds, and iPod docks -- they're among the best in Aruba, excusing the tiny balconies. Zoia Spa reopened in May 2012 following a complete renovation, and now offers a full range of tratments and salon services.

Divi Village Golf & Beach Resort

Divi Village Golf & Beach Resort Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Divi Village Golf & Beach Resort, renovated in 2010, is the most sprawling of the five Divi properties on the island. All 348 suites , decorated in understated island-style decor, appeal to families with king beds, queen-size pull-out sofas, modern bathrooms, and fully equipped kitchens. Despite its name, the property is actually a short walk away from Druif Beach, located across the road. However, guests enjoy close proximity to tennis courts, a 9-hole golf course and, and a modern clubhouse, containing two restaurants with scenic views. All-inclusive packages include access to the restaurants and bars at neighboring Divi Aruba and Tamarijn Aruba, as well as to resorts' activities and kids' club. This resort grounds are expansive -- be prepared to walk, or take advantage of the free shuttle service between resorts and the casino.

Occidental Grand Aruba

Occidental Grand Aruba Rating: 3.5 Pearls

A lively, modern resort in Aruba's tourist center, the Occidental draws young couples, families, and retirees -- all playing together on the hotel's active beach. Comfortable rooms, polite service, and a lagoon-shaped pool -- but less impressive on-site cuisine. Not to worry, though: Great restaurants, bars, and shops are only a walk away from the High-Rise complex.

Holiday Inn Resort Aruba - Beach Resort & Casino

Holiday Inn Resort Aruba - Beach Resort & Casino Rating: 3.0 Pearls

The Holiday Inn is a family-friendly beachside resort with a decent fitness center, day spa, and nice pool. It could be a bargain, but the rooms are a little basic and the service is definitely hands-off. Fortunately, the upscale High-Rise shopping complex, just across the street, has loads of great restaurants and bars.

Tropicana Aruba Resort & Casino

Tropicana Aruba Resort & Casino Rating: 3.0 Pearls

A 362-suite property mainly composed of time-shares, the Tropicana Aruba is minutes from shopping, downtown Oranjestad, and the Aruba International Airport. However, even with its stocked kitchens, the outdated rooms, 10-minute walk to the beach make the Tropicana Aruba a less-than-ideal option.

Radisson Aruba Resort, Casino & Spa

Radisson Aruba Resort, Casino & Spa Rating: 3.0 Pearls

Sporting two large pools, exotic landscaping (with caged parrots), a top-notch spa and fitness center, and a long beach where kids and teens run wild, the Radisson is an excellent value, especially since its $26 million renovations were completed in October 2011 of all guestrooms, the casino, and all other common areas. Plus, the location is ideal; ample restaurants and places to party, on-site and off.

The Westin Aruba Resort

The Westin Aruba Resort Rating: 4.0 Pearls

A clean, modern beachside hotel with prompt service, excellent restaurants, a clean pool, and supremely comfortable beds. The Westin lacks the glitzy decor and elaborate frills found at other Aruban resorts, but for most of its guests, that's a good thing. To party, the upscale High-Rise shopping/drinking/dancing complex is only a 10-minute walk away.
