Aviatic Hotel

Aviatic Hotel Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The 42-room Aviatic Hotel was built in 1856, and its facade has a stately and austere appearance. The inside, however, mixes historical appeal (crown moldings, statuesque busts, lantern pendant lighting) with modern comforts and conveniences (flat-screen TVs, contemporary decor, free Wi-Fi). Although rooms are on the small side (fairly standard in Paris), they feel larger thanks to big windows and mirrored closet doors. The bathrooms are narrow, however, and some rooms feature twin beds pushed close together. A quaint dining area features a daily breakfast menu (at cost), and the location in the chic, artsy Saint-Germain des Pres area near several metro stations makes this a great hub from which to explore the city.

Hotel Relais de Paris Eiffel Cambronne

Hotel Relais de Paris Eiffel Cambronne Rating: 3.0 Pearls

This mid-range hotel offers 51 rooms for a decent value on the Left Bank, near the Eiffel Tower and Cambronne Metro Station. It is a simple place -- upon entering, guests will find a small lobby, computer station and front desk area. Claustrophobics may want to consider elsewhere, as hallways, elevators and rooms themselves are tight on space. Though the interiors show some wear and tear -- especially in the bathrooms -- bold colors add a contemporary touch. Rooms have flat-screen TVs, kettles for tea and coffee, and French windows that open up to red geranium plants. Front-facing rooms are soundproofed, but may still experience noise from the busy street and above-ground train tracks. Alternatively, some rooms face the courtyard terrace in the rear (first floor rooms actually enter from here). The hotel does not offer a full restaurant or bar, but there are plenty of options nearby, including La Villa Corse directly next door. Wi-Fi is free throughout.

Hotel Du Parc

Hotel Du Parc Rating: 3.0 Pearls

The Hotel Du Parc is a 36-room, mid-range property with colorful touches. Updated rooms are clean and contemporary, with free Wi-Fi and big colorful photographs of flowers. Simple bathrooms are in need of an update. The location is right by the Montparnasse train station and great shopping at famous Galeries Lafayette, but the location is a bit removed from the action of central Paris. However, there are several Metro stops within two blocks of the hotel. Hotel perks include a modern business center and breakfast delivered to the room at no extra charge. Travelers concerned about choosing the right neighborhood might want to compare prices with more centrally located hotels.

Le Fabe Hotel

Le Fabe Hotel Rating: 3.0 Pearls

The 17-room boutique Le Fabe Hotel is modern and stylish, with bold decor and quirky touches that reflect the boho, arty Montparnasse outside its doors. Although not located in the city center, there are plenty of interesting things to do and see around the hotel, including many cafes and restaurants that are great for people watching -- and easy on the budget. The bright, modern rooms have individual decor and names (such as The Orchid Room, with a bold orchid motif.) This memorable property attracts both leisure and business travelers visiting Paris.
