Hotel Le Notre Dame

Hotel Le Notre Dame Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Perhaps the best aspect of this mid-range hotel is its close proximity (literally steps) to Notre Dame Cathedral. This also means guests have direct access to the Latin Quarter and Saint Germain for unbeatable culture and many restaurants. But it's not only about the location -- the rooms, designed by Christian LaCroix, are something special, with funky colors, fabrics, and eccentric touches everywhere. The building is about 400 years old, so it has some quirks. For example, the lobby is on the second floor, and guests have to lug their bags up the stairs to get there (the elevator doesn't go there). For the young and adventurous, the Hotel Le Notre Dame is a great choice. The area is bustling with vendors, tourists, and traffic, which brings in a bit of noise but also a lot of excitement. But for those who want to relax and have a lot of options in the hotel itself, they won't find it here -- aside from the necessity to climb stairs, there is no fitness center, or restaurant (though there is a breakfast served).
The Five Hotel

The Five Hotel Rating: 3.0 Pearls

The Five Hotel is an adults-only, mid-range boutique property with a playful romantic vibe: There's a "love capsule" bar, with soft-core erotica books, and rose petals on the beds. Both the lobby and the rooms are tiny (especially the showers!), and there aren't any property features aside from the bar and breakfast room. The decor in the lobby and bar is ultra-modern and funky, while the rooms have contemporary style (expect details such as colorful fabrics, fringe drapes around the beds, and clear plastic chairs). Rooms also offer flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. The hotel is walking distance to the Luxembourg gardens and numerous restaurants, and four nearby metro lines can shuttle guests to more central areas of the city. The Five Hotel is perfectly pleasant option for this price category, but it's worth comparing rates with the nearby Hotel Apostrophe Rive Gauche and Aviatic Hotel.
Hotel Pas de Calais

Hotel Pas de Calais Rating: 3.0 Pearls

This attractive mid-range boutique hotel with just 38 rooms is less than 50 meters from the Boulevard Saint Germain and within walking distance of Notre Dame Cathedral. As is often the case with Parisian boutique hotels, the rooms are on the small side -- but they are tastefully decorated. Style varies from room to room, and some are more contemporary while others have a more traditional Parisian look. The nearby Hotel Dauphine Saint Germain is also charming, so it's worth comparing rates.
One by the Five

One by the Five Rating: 3.0 Pearls

This hotel gets its name because it is literally one guestroom. Clearly designed to set a romantic mood for guests, the room offers scent choices, a "love elixir" cocktail that can be made in the suite's kitchenette, a rose petal-covered levitating bed (it's attached to the wall but not the floor), and a common area dubbed "the dance floor," with all-red decor and crushed velvet curtains. And though some find it cheesy, the room still has an upscale vibe, particularly in the mod bedroom where the lighting can be dimmed down so that the ceiling glows with a twinkling starlight effect. A flat-screen TV, iPod dock, and free Wi-Fi are also on offer. There are literally no features at this one-room property, but room service is available and there are several restaurants within walking distance.
Hotel du College de France

Hotel du College de France Rating: 2.0 Pearls

The six-floor, 29-room Hotel du College de France is a quiet gem in a quintessentially Parisian location, halfway between the Pantheon and Notre Dame in the bohemian Latin Quarter. The hotel is welcoming and wonderfully French. This clean, comfortable hotel is a great value for such an ideal location, and has plenty of character (particularly for a budget property). Rooms are basic, with carpets and comforters, but they're perfectly adequate for the price.
