Viceroy Anguilla

Viceroy Anguilla Rating: 5.0 Pearls

The Viceroy Anguilla, opened in 2009, is the most modern property on this tiny island -- and arguably the most luxurious. The Kelly Wearstler-designed resort manages to mix an upscale look with a laid-back, beachy feel, and features sleek lines, modern amenities, numerous art installations, earth tones, animal prints, and wood, stone, and gold accents. This look continues through the 166 rooms, which have romantic balconies as well as marble bathrooms with separate showers and soaking tubs. Though the Viceroy certainly attracts couples, the resort features a kids' club and teen's club, and families can be seen splashing around in the pools and heading to the tennis courts.
CuisinArt Resort & Spa

CuisinArt Resort & Spa Rating: 5.0 Pearls

The CuisinArt, one of the best-known resorts in Anguilla, is a sprawling beachfront property dotted by white, Grecian-like buildings. It features numerous amenities, from an extensive spa to the only golf course on the island, but the real standout here (not surprisingly given its CuisinArt ownership) is the food; several on-site restaurants offer gourmet meals with a focus on fresh ingredients from the resort's hydroponic farm, and guests can nosh on Japanese, Italian, or Mediterranean fare. Though the hotel manages to exude an upscale vibe through its beautiful open layout and luxurious services, rooms don't feel quite up to par: Tiled floors and somewhat kitschy island decor leaves them feeling dated, despite modern features such as flat-screen TVs and free Internet access. At least partial ocean views can be seen from each of the 93 rooms, however, and the nice beach offers activities such as non-motorized water sports and snorkeling.
Anacaona Boutique Hotel

Anacaona Boutique Hotel Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The 27-room Anacaona is a solid mid-range option in Anguilla’s West End. It offers access to the same gorgeous white-sand beach as the neighboring Viceroy -- through an off-property path -- as well as to the nearby Greg Norman’s golf course and a few restaurants. Rooms are large and airy, and have great amenities, including large flat-screen TVs with dozens of channels, iPod docks, free Wi-Fi, and Frette linens. But most bathrooms are lackluster, with old tiling and fixtures. With two small pools, free snorkeling equipment, a great restaurant serving Caribbean fare with a twist, and a massage hut on the beach, the hotel is a good pick for value.
