Classical King George Palace

Classical King George Palace Rating: 5.0 Pearls

The historic Classical King George Palace is one of the most luxurious and exclusive properties in Athens. Everything about this hotel is chic -- from the aviator-clad doormen to the gourmet restaurant with stunning views of the Acropolis. The Palace boasts every amenity one would expect from a luxury hotel -- but as a boutique, some are on a smaller scale: There is a small indoor pool, an intimate spa, three glamorous meeting rooms, and a tiny fitness center. The 101 rooms are elegant, with hardwood floors, antique furniture, rich, silky curtains, and plush bedding. The dated tube TVs in some rooms seem a bit out of place. For those who can afford it, the Royal Penthouse Suite is truly decadent, with two bedrooms, a massive terrace, and an infinity pool with unobstructed views of the Acropolis.

Crowne Plaza Athens City Centre

Crowne Plaza Athens City Centre Rating: 4.5 Pearls

The Crowne Plaza is a solid luxury option in a central Athens location, within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and Syntagma Square. Though the hotel caters to business travelers with its 14 meeting rooms and well-equipped business center, leisure travelers can appreciate the rooftop pool, two restaurants, and small fitness center. The hotel does not have a full spa, but does provide a limited menu of spa services and an on-site sauna. Rooms are sleek and modern, and come equipped with spacious bathrooms, flat-screen TVs, media hubs for electronics hookups, and coffeemakers. Some guests feel nickel-and-dimed by the additional fee for Wi-Fi, but for a luxury property, the Crowne Plaza often offers reasonable rates considering its long list of amenities.
