Dream Downtown

Dream Downtown Rating: 4.5 Pearls

The 316-room Dream Downtown is a futuristic-looking hotel located directly behind the Maritime in Chelsea, near the border with the trendy Meatpacking District. The hotel blends public spaces together in a unique way: The fitness center has portholes overlooking the pool, and the pool itself has a glass bottom that looks down into the lobby. The hotel's scene is decidedly hip, especially at rooftop PH-D lounge (a popular celeb haunt). Gold King rooms have portholes surrounding the bed with killer views. Aside from the pool, nightclub, and snazzy interior decor, hotel features include a 24-hour gym, IGK luxury hair salon, a rotating art exhibit space, and two Mexican eateries. It's easily one of the hippest options in this area, and has edgier design than the nearby Gansevoort and Maritime.
Hilton New York Fashion District Hotel

Hilton New York Fashion District Hotel Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This 280-room Hilton in northern Chelsea shines with well-appointed rooms (Frette linens, 37-inch flat-screens, iPod docks), an excellent restaurant (Rare Bar & Grill), a rooftop bar, and 24-hour room service. It's a solid mid-range pick in a convenient (if unexciting) neighborhood, but it's rivaled by the nearby Hotel Indigo, so it's worth comparing rates.
The Maritime Hotel

The Maritime Hotel Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Housed in a unique building in the heart of artsy Chelsea -- near the clubs and designer flagships of the Meatpacking District -- the 120-room, nautical-themed Maritime boutique hotel offers luxury-level comfort at a very reasonable price (thanks, in part, to its slip off the "cool kid" radar since 2003 and especially after the Standard hotel opened in 2009).

Eventi Rating: 4.0 Pearls

A stylish lobby, big, beautiful rooms with Frette sheets and 37-inch flat-screens make this 292-room Kimpton the best hotel in a developing pocket of northern Chelsea. It also offers easy access to the tourist sites.
The Standard High Line

The Standard High Line Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Hovering above the High Line on concrete pillars, this one-of-a-kind Meatpacking District hotel offers 338 light-flooded, ultra-mod rooms with panoramic views of the city; one restaurant, several popular bars; and excellent service. It might just be the hippest hotel in New York City.
The High Line Hotel

The High Line Hotel Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This chic 60-room boutique hotel opened its doors in 2013, taking up residence in a section of a still-working theological seminary dating back to the 1800s. In the warmer months, guests can enjoy champagne and oysters on the outdoor terrace restaurant, and Intelligentsia Coffee (from Chicago) serves serious caffeine fixes and local pastries in the lobby year-round. Luxurious rooms and suites have plush king beds, pine wood floors, unique antique furnishings, bathrobes and CO Bigelow bath products. There are a series of meeting and event rooms next door at Hoffman Hall, including the Harry Potter-esque "Refectory" -- a big draw for weddings and fashion runway shows. Just note that the hotel is still working through a few service and maintenance kinks.
DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel New York City - Chelsea

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel New York City - Chelsea Rating: 3.5 Pearls

This Doubletree is a better-than-average chain option delivering all the DoubleTree essentials -- free breakfast, free Wi-Fi, and 24-hour fitness and business centers. It's notable for its full-service restaurant and bar (which many comparable chains lack) and is convenient (if not particularly attractive) location in northern Chelsea near Penn Station and the Empire State Building.
Hotel Indigo Chelsea New York

Hotel Indigo Chelsea New York Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Opened in October 2009, this 122-room boutique in midtown Manhattan is a full-service hotel in miniature, with plush rooms, excellent views of midtown, a gym, a business center, an elegant restaurant and lounge, and a 19th-floor rooftop bar. Comfortable and well-equipped rooms are hard to beat, for the price -- only those at the nearby Fashion 26 can compare.
Holiday Inn Express Chelsea/Madison Square Garden

Holiday Inn Express Chelsea/Madison Square Garden Rating: 3.0 Pearls

Located on an unpopular side street, a bit cut off from most major attractions (though they are all accessible by subway), this 228-room Holiday Inn Express is significantly cheaper than its sisters, and just about every other hotel in New York. Given its free Wi-Fi, breakfast, and 24 hour gym, plus a cute outdoor courtyard, it's an incredible value.
Hampton Inn Manhattan-Chelsea

Hampton Inn Manhattan-Chelsea Rating: 3.0 Pearls

This mid-range Hampton Inn near Madison Square Park is a credit to the chain, with modern, stylish common spaces and fresh, clean rooms. It's a great affordable option in pricey New York City, and the free Wi-Fi, free coffee and tea in the lobby, free evening cookies and free hot continental breakfast (there are even to-go breakfast bags for those who can't sit down) add to the value. Some tourists may prefer a location closer to the attractions in Midtown, but nearby subway lines make it easy to get around the city.
