Angels Share Hotel

Angels Share Hotel Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This upscale boutique hotel is right in the heart of lively Edinburgh. Just at the end of Princes Street, all the main attractions are a short walk away. The hotel has a truly Scottish personality, and a cool, contemporary style. Each of the 31 rooms is dedicated to a Scottish icon like Rod Stewart, and decorated in a modern, minimalist way. The restaurant serves great Scottish dishes and the bar is a stylish hotspot for both tourists and locals. Angels Share is slightly cheaper than the nearby Tigerlily, so it offers great value in a hard-to-beat location.
Le Monde Edinburgh

Le Monde Edinburgh Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This 18-room, upscale boutique hotel has an eclectic style with city-themed rooms and suites. Located right in the center of Edinburgh, all the top attractions are within a short walk. There’s plenty to keep party-goers busy here too, as the hotel has two stylish bars, and its own nightclub in the basement. There’s also a relaxed coffee lounge and a hip restaurant serving modern international cuisine. It’s an ideal choice for those who want to see Edinburgh’s nightlife, but is also well-suited to couples and business travelers. Note that it's pricier than the nearby Angels Share, which has the same owners, but Le Monde has larger rooms as well as more glamorous and luxurious touches. The unique decor makes staying here a real experience.
No. 11 Brunswick Street

No. 11 Brunswick Street Rating: 4.0 Pearls

No. 11 Brunswick Street is an upscale, charming bed-and-breakfast in a quiet area on the edge of the city center. Built in 1822, the property still retains some of its beautiful original features, such as ornate cornices and ceiling roses. The 10 rooms are chic and elegant, with luxurious bathrooms. There’s an excellent restaurant that uses local produce for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner. The property may not have all the facilities of a large city center hotel, but it offers a peaceful and stylish retreat.

Tigerlily Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The Tigerlily is housed in an historic Georgian townhouse, but inside, it's thoroughly modern. This stylish 33-room boutique hotel has few amenities -- just a small lobby, a restaurant, and a bar (no fitness center or spa here). But it attracts guests with its gorgeous rooms and convenient New Town location, within walking distance of sights, restaurants, and shops. The hip bar and restaurant, where guests and locals can enjoy tasty cocktails and organic meals, features funky chandeliers, bright velvet furniture, and patterned wall panels. The rooms are high-tech, with flat-screen TVs at the foots of the beds and pre-loaded iPods, and have wood floors and sophisticated contemporary style. Rooms are individually decorated, and many feature bright color accents and statement patterns; all have high-end extras such as plush bedding, fresh flowers, and sleek bathrooms with upscale White Company toiletries.
Adria House

Adria House Rating: 3.0 Pearls

Adria House is a mid-range, family-run guesthouse set in a fine Georgian terrace with traditionally styled interiors and plenty of period charm. Its pleasant, cobbled street location is walkable from the main station and offers easy access to Calton Hill -- though Edinburgh's historic center is a stretch on foot. The seven rooms are spacious and cozy, though a couple lack en-suite facilities, and there's no elevator. Rates are around what's expected for a good quality bed-and-breakfast in Edinburgh, and it is certainly one of the nicer ones, with Wi-Fi and a cooked English breakfast included.
Ramsay's B&B

Ramsay's B&B Rating: 2.5 Pearls

Ramsay's B&B occupies part of an inconspicuous and typically Edinburgh Georgian terrace in the Canonmills neighborhood on the eastern edge of Edinburgh's New Town. The owners of this budget property provide a particularly warm welcome -- with whiskey -- and interiors are impeccably finished yet homey. Rooms are pleasant, with wood floors and crisp colors, though the smallest of the four is tiny, with a shared bathroom. Rates aren't cheap for a bed-and-breakfast, but the amount of repeat visits from guests is testimony to the guesthouse's special atmosphere.
