Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino

Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Located in the bustling cruise-ship center of Oranjestad, the modern, upscale 556-room Renaissance hotel (a Marriott property) offers an exceptional casino (one of Aruba's best) and its own private island (an alternative to a beach). It might not feel exotic -- it's attached to a shopping mall -- but it has great food and retail fun.

The Westin Aruba Resort

The Westin Aruba Resort Rating: 4.0 Pearls

A clean, modern beachside hotel with prompt service, excellent restaurants, a clean pool, and supremely comfortable beds. The Westin lacks the glitzy decor and elaborate frills found at other Aruban resorts, but for most of its guests, that's a good thing. To party, the upscale High-Rise shopping/drinking/dancing complex is only a 10-minute walk away.

Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino

Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino Rating: 4.0 Pearls

A comfortable, modern getaway for families with a great pool, gym, spa, and casino, the Marriott Resort is fancier than its only neighbors, the Marriott Surf Club and the Marriott Ocean Club. This Marriott is a bit farther from the airport than most Aruban resorts, but it's only a three-minute walk to the High Rise complex.

Marriott's Aruba Surf Club

Marriott's Aruba Surf Club Rating: 4.0 Pearls

One of 3 beachside Marriott resorts side-by-side, the safe, family-oriented Surf Club has clean, comfortable rooms, an excellent gym, a huge waterslide, a teen lounge with Nintendo Wii video games, and the winding "Lazy River" pool (possibly the best pool in Aruba). On-site dining is limited, but excellent restaurants are just a short walk away.

Divi Aruba All Inclusive

Divi Aruba All Inclusive Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Divi Aruba All-Inclusive is one of the five Divi properties on the island. This easygoing 203-room option is situated on a prime stretch of Druif Beach, dotted with straw beach huts for shade. Guests can walk north along the sand and end up at Eagle Beach (one of the most popular beaches in the world), or head south to the neighboring Tamarijn Aruba resort. The all-inclusive offering includes unlimited meals and drinks at both Divi Aruba and Tamarijn Aruba (nine dining options and seven bars, total) as well as nightly music and entertainment, water activities, a kids' club, tennis courts and a rock-climbing wall. (Wi-Fi, however, is an extra fee.) Rooms include balconies (some lack views) and clean furnishings with duvets, mini-fridges and flat-screen TVs.

Occidental Grand Aruba

Occidental Grand Aruba Rating: 3.5 Pearls

A lively, modern resort in Aruba's tourist center, the Occidental draws young couples, families, and retirees -- all playing together on the hotel's active beach. Comfortable rooms, polite service, and a lagoon-shaped pool -- but less impressive on-site cuisine. Not to worry, though: Great restaurants, bars, and shops are only a walk away from the High-Rise complex.

Riu Palace Aruba - All Inclusive

Riu Palace Aruba - All Inclusive Rating: 3.5 Pearls

A giant, Arabian-themed castle on the beach, the Riu Palace feels less than authentic. Couples-heavy, the resort has two huge pools, a rowdy casino, a 24-hour sports bar, huge buffets, and a bustling beach. But service is lacking, and most rooms have outdated technologies.

Divi Dutch Village Resort

Divi Dutch Village Resort Rating: 3.0 Pearls

Divi Dutch Village is one of five mid-range Divi properties on the island of Aruba. All of the 123 suites have king beds, queen sofa sleepers, and fully equipped kitchens, making them a convenient pick for families. Additional in-room amenities include balconies, duvets, flat-screen TVs and DVD players. Don't expect ocean views, though, as the property is situated in a garden-like setting behind the Tamarijn Aruba. That being said, guests are just steps from a prime stretch of Druif Beach, as well as several outdoor pools. Guests have the opportunity to purchase all-inclusive packages for access to the restaurants and bars at neighboring Divi Aruba, Tamarijn Aruba and Divi Village Golf & Beach Resort; packages also include access to the sister properties' wide range of activities and a kids' club.

Holiday Inn Resort Aruba - Beach Resort & Casino

Holiday Inn Resort Aruba - Beach Resort & Casino Rating: 3.0 Pearls

The Holiday Inn is a family-friendly beachside resort with a decent fitness center, day spa, and nice pool. It could be a bargain, but the rooms are a little basic and the service is definitely hands-off. Fortunately, the upscale High-Rise shopping complex, just across the street, has loads of great restaurants and bars.

Tamarijn Aruba All Inclusive

Tamarijn Aruba All Inclusive Rating: 3.0 Pearls

Tamarijn Aruba All Inclusive is one of five Divi properties on the island. This family-friendly, 236-room resort is situated close to the shore along Druif Beach, dotted with straw beach huts for shade. Though beach space in front of the long row of two-story buildings is tight, there's a broader stretch of sand a short walk north, in front of the slightly more romantic sister resort, Divi Aruba. The all-inclusive bracelet worn by guests allows for unlimited meals and drinks at both Tamarijn Aruba and Divi Aruba (nine dining options and seven bars, total) as well as nightly music and entertainment, water activities, a kids' club, tennis courts and a rock-climbing wall. All rooms come with ocean views, balconies, duvets, mini-fridges and flat-screen TVs. Bathrooms have been updated, though the property as a whole does show some wear and tear.
