Mandarin Oriental, Atlanta

Mandarin Oriental, Atlanta Rating: 5.0 Pearls

This elegant, 127-room luxury hotel is located in a quiet area in Buckhead, but close to restaurants, shops and great nightlife, and a couple of blocks from the subway. The spacious, high-tech rooms are the main draw here, but there's also a wonderful spa (a destination for locals), a great indoor lap pool, a bright fitness center, a casual but stylish restaurant, and a lounge overlooking the beautiful gardens.
Four Seasons Hotel Atlanta

Four Seasons Hotel Atlanta Rating: 5.0 Pearls

The 244-room Four Seasons Atlanta certainly looks grand -- the exterior and entryway have the scale and decoration one would expect from a southern Four Seasons. The rooms, however, leave a bit to be desired. They are pleasant enough and have some of the bells and whistles expected at a property of this price point (down pillows, plush bathrobes, flat-screen TVs, iPod docks), but decor is generic and the bathrooms are quite small. Suites, however, are much more stylish, with luxurious beds and stunning views. The rest of the hotel, as well, is more in line with its five-pearl status: There's a lovely indoor saltwater lap pool with whirlpool and free poolside chilled towels, ice water, and Evian spritzes; a well-outfitted, modern fitness center; an acclaimed restaurant; and a full-service spa.
The St. Regis Atlanta

The St. Regis Atlanta Rating: 5.0 Pearls

This grand, French Baroque-inspired resort is one of Atlanta's premier options, located in the affluent Buckhead neighborhood. Luxury reaches an impressive level, with glimmering chandeliers, a marble terrace, and fine furnishings throughout. The lobby and lounge areas are pure glamour and the 151 rooms are equally regal. Expect big, comfortable beds, marble bathrooms with soaking tubs, and a luxurious outdoor pool piazza. It's pricier than other options, but it's not hard to see why.
The Ritz-Carlton, Buckhead

The Ritz-Carlton, Buckhead Rating: 5.0 Pearls

The outstanding service and glamorous design at the Ritz-Carlton Buckhead fall in line with customer's expectations of this luxury brand. The 517 rooms are mostly luxurious, with bright bay windows, iPod docks, plush linens, and warm colors, but feel slightly dated, with popcorn ceilings and run-of-the-mill wood furniture. Bathrooms have marble vanities and, in most, rainforest showerheads, but no separate soaking tubs and no name-brand toiletries. Property highlights include a big indoor pool, a high-end cafe, an ornate lobby, and a regal dining room. In Buckhead, it's bested by the Mandarin Oriental and the St. Regis.
InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta

InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta Rating: 4.5 Pearls

The 422-room InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta is classic and elegant -- from the bright, grand lobby with fireplaces and marble columns to the upscale and comfortable rooms. Marble bathrooms in all rooms offer soaking tubs and separate showers, and upper-level rooms have great skyscraper views. The restaurant specializes in southern cuisine, and many restaurants and bars are in easy walking distance from the excellent Buckhead location. Close proximity to Lenox Square Mall and the MARTA transit system are convenient, but the medium-sized pool doesn't impress.
Loews Atlanta Hotel

Loews Atlanta Hotel Rating: 4.5 Pearls

The 414-room Loews Atlanta hotel brings style and luxury to Midtown. Rooms are bright with floor-to-ceiling windows and spacious bathrooms have soaking tubs and TVs. Upscale amenities include a modern spa and fitness center along with a swanky cocktail bar in the lobby. Convenient dining options range from an innovative restaurant to a gourmet snack bar, but many restaurants and bars are in walking distance as well. Wi-Fi is available for a fee and parking is pricey, although free transportation is on offer within a three-mile radius in a stylish Mercedes GL450.
The Ritz-Carlton Atlanta

The Ritz-Carlton Atlanta Rating: 4.5 Pearls

The 441-room Ritz-Carlton Atlanta is one of the most luxurious hotel choices downtown, and offers big rooms with plenty of natural light, as well as modern amenities such as flat-screen TVs and iPod docks. The warm, Art-Deco-inspired room decor is luxurious, if lacking some wow factor, but bathrooms are on the smaller side and most have shower/tub combos (no separate tubs). The property does deliver the top-of-the-line service travelers expect from the Ritz brand, as well as impressive features -- a sleek lobby, a trendy bar, and a fine dining restaurant.
Hilton Atlanta

Hilton Atlanta Rating: 4.0 Pearls

With 1,242 rooms, the behemoth Hilton Atlanta features the quality amenities travelers expect from the Hilton brand. In this towering hotel the spacious rooms are contemporary (if a tad generic) and have flat-screen TVs, and all the amenities of a big hotel are present: a well-equipped fitness center, outdoor pool, tennis courts, and even a rooftop running track. Parking is expensive and there's a fee for Wi-Fi, but the downtown location is convenient.
W Atlanta - Buckhead

W Atlanta - Buckhead Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This design-focused, chic hotel offers a younger, funkier alternative to upscale hotels in Atlanta. The contemporary style ranges from the antler-adorned chandeliers in the lobby to the uber-modern, minimalist decor in other common areas. The 291 comfortable rooms are whimsical in design with playful patterns and mismatched artwork. This hotel is fun and lively -- especially the rooftop whiskey bar -- but the small pool and open bathrooms might be problematic for some guests.
The Ellis Hotel

The Ellis Hotel Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This 127-room boutique in Downtown Atlanta is located in a historic building that was once ravaged by the deadly Winecoff fire -- but inside, it's thoroughly stylish and contemporary. Its charming lobby has fresh flowers and a cool light fixture, its restaurant serves delicious farm-to-table cuisine, its event space is lovely with a terrace and floor-to-ceiling windows, and rooms -- though on the smaller side -- are sophisticated, with modern technology. Perks like free Wi-Fi and a $1 wine tasting every evening add value, and female travelers may appreciate the women's-only floor, which includes added security and a separate entrance.
