Harrah's Resort Atlantic City

Harrah's Resort Atlantic City Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Open since 1980, Harrah's -- located in Atlantic City's Marina District -- completed a $500 million expansion in 2008, which included the addition of a new 44-story Waterfront Tower with contemporary furnishings and bay views. The resort offers 2,590 rooms in five towers (older rooms are in major need of renovations) as well as a slew of impressive amenities. Unlike at other Atlantic City resorts, the casino is not the main draw here; rather, action is centered in the adults-only indoor pool, a glass-domed oasis with constant 82-degree temperatures and tropical plants. At night it becomes "The Pool after Dark," a lively club scene with DJs and occasional celeb appearances. Other highlights include a Viking Cooking School, Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa, and gourmet restaurants. But it's not within walking distance of the beach or boardwalk, and there are fees for Wi-Fi and parking.
Revel

Revel Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The newest hotel on Atlantic City's boardwalk, Revel is a pristine luxury property with a smoke-free policy that helps keep its casino fresh and airy. The spacious rooms are top-notch: All feature ocean views from floor-to-ceiling windows, sexy bathrooms with double vanities and large showers, and tech-friendly amenities such as massive flat-screen TVs, remote-controlled lights and shades, free Wi-Fi, and even door sensors that let staff know when room service carts have been pushed into the hallway. The resort has everything that other luxury properties in Atlantic City offer, such as numerous celebrity chef-helmed restaurants, several nightclubs, a theater, a pool, and a beautiful spa, but Revel offers a more serene vibe. Like at other resorts, however, the restaurants are overpriced and there are long lines at the nightclubs, but fist-pumping locals and visiting bachelor and bachelorette parties would argue that it's worth the wait.
Caesars Atlantic City

Caesars Atlantic City Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Caesars is one of the oldest properties in Atlantic City, but extensive renovations have kept it feeling like one of the newest. It's situated along the boardwalk, steps from the beach and luxury shopping, and has a dramatic lobby with Roman-inspired columns and painted ceilings. Though the overall feel is more up-to-date than boardwalk neighbors, some of the 1,140 rooms still show wear and tear: Stick to the Centurion and Ocean Towers, where rooms have sophisticated decor, flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, and spacious bathrooms. Upscale property amenities include an impressive spa, an adults-only rooftop pool with views, as well as a plush stadium-seat theater for live entertainment. Tack on gourmet restaurants, a clean casino, and decent nightlife options, and what you get is a dependable choice for adults (though families are certainly welcome). Expect fees for Wi-Fi and parking.
Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa

Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This behemoth hotel and casino on the outskirts of Atlantic City is a hub of entertainment, and arguably the city's premier destination. The 2000-room property (which opened in 2003) overlooks a marina at Renaissance Pointe. Floor-to-ceiling windows keep rooms bright, and a 2012 renovation means all rooms and suites are well-appointed with flat-screen TVs and Keurig coffeemakers. Entertainment is outstanding, from celebrity chef restaurants -- including Bobby Flay Steak and Wolfgang Puck American Grille -- to poker tables, an Italian-inspired indoor pool, and spa treatments. However, beyond entertainment, there is no outdoor pool and the hotel is not within walking distance of the boardwalk or beach.
The Water Club at Borgata

The Water Club at Borgata Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The Water Club is an 800-room modern and exclusive escape from the bustle of Atlantic City. Guests have access to the casino, restaurants, and nightlife of the attached Borgata -- but have their own exclusive amenities, including five adults-only heated pools and a serene two-story Immersion spa. Rooms have more amenities than at the Borgata next door, including iPod docks, flat-screen TVs, and Keurig coffeemakers, but the pools can be crowded during the summer, and this level of quality comes with one of the highest price tags in Atlantic City.
