Hotel Icaria Barcelona

Hotel Icaria Barcelona Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The Icaria Hotel is a great value option in an up-and-coming section of Barcelona, near the beach and Olympic Park. The 180 modern and stylish rooms offer hardwood floors, flat-screen TVs, and large marble bathrooms. One highlight here is the outdoor rooftop pool with Jacuzzi and lounge chairs. Nightlife is also available, at the chic hotel cocktail bar called Vanity Room. Additional features include a big, sunny fitness center, free Wi-Fi, and free breakfast. While there are some complaints about traffic noise and the hotel isn't walking distance to big tourist attractions, electric scooters are available for rent inside the lobby for exploring Barcelona.

Eurostars Angli

Eurostars Angli Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The modern 48-room Eurostars Angli is located half an hour by subway from Barcelona's city center in a residential neighborhood. The lobby and rooms have a streamlined look with sleek, dark wood floors, funky furniture, and wall-panel art. Modern amenities include small flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. Some guests complain about gentle wear and tear, but the rooms are clean and offer plenty of natural light through floor-to-ceiling windows. Not everyone will like the open bathrooms, though, with frosted glass doors that lack privacy. The highlight of this hotel is the outdoor pool area (a rare find in Barcelona). There is also an on-site restaurant and snack bar. While the Eurostars Angli is a bit isolated from the city center, it offers good value for travelers looking to save some cash.

Eurostars Cristal Palace

Eurostars Cristal Palace Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The Eurostars Cristal Palace is a less expensive and less upscale sister to the nearby BCN Design Hotel. But this hotel is a great pick for its location just off Passeig de Gracia, within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and sights. Some of the 150 rooms are on the small side, but they're clean and contemporary with flat-screen TVs, striped bedding accents, wood floors, and modern bathrooms. The hotel does not have a fitness center or a spa, but it is a good choice for business travelers as there are several meeting rooms and all rooms are equipped with free Wi-Fi. There is also an on-site restaurant, Pictory, and lobby bar.

Barcelona Universal Hotel

Barcelona Universal Hotel Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This modern hotel with sleek decor has a convenient location within walking distance of La Rambla and the port, with the Parallel metro station literally right outside the door. There is a rooftop pool and solarium, though the surroundings aren’t quite so posh. While it offers a decent value for its location, some guests think it lacks the luxuries of a true four-pearl property. The nearby neighborhood is considered up and coming and might not suit all guests.

Hotel Acta Ink 606

Hotel Acta Ink 606 Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Hotel Acta 606 is a mid-range hotel that is within walking distance of the city's famed Sagrada Familia landmark, but a bit far from other sights. Though clean and modern, the property feels more sterile than chic. Rooms follow the standard formula for minimalist style: streamlined furnishings and few adornments. They feature a black and white color scheme with red accent walls, and the large, tiled bathrooms have spacious showers, but some lack tubs. Guests who are looking for views may want to opt for a room with a private balcony. The rooftop sun deck offers additional vistas, though its sparse furnishings make for a spartan feel.

Barcelo Hotel Atenea Mar

Barcelo Hotel Atenea Mar Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Barcelo Hotel Atenea Mar is an upper-mid-range chain option located in the heart of the new business area District 22@. This seafront hotel appeals to the business traveler for free Wi-Fi, a fitness center with up-to-date machines and massage services, and an adequate Mediterranean restaurant with lobby bar. Interesting perks here include loaner bicycles, beautiful ocean views from most rooms, and close proximity to the beach. While rooms are contemporary and clean, the hotel is far from the main Barcelona tourist attractions and some rooms have old tube TVs.

Hotel Balmoral

Hotel Balmoral Rating: 3.5 Pearls

THIS HOTEL HAS BEEN RENOVATED SINCE OUR VISIT. WE WILL UPDATE OUR PHOTOS AND REVIEW AS SOON AS WE CAN. Balmoral Hotel lies within the walls of a fairly nondescript building, flanked on either side by regal Colonial-style properties. Though it's an older property, it does have attractive contemporary touches, including a sleek, Zen-inspired spa with a sauna, and a lovely terrace. Free Wi-Fi, a business center and multipurpose meeting rooms attract business travelers. But vacationers might not be impressed with the rooms, which look like those you'd find in a typical chain hotel. Overall, Balmoral Hotel lacks character, but it's a solid choice for those looking for value in a convenient location.

Hotel Amister Barcelona

Hotel Amister Barcelona Rating: 3.5 Pearls

This 55-room property is located in a quiet area in Barcelona, near public transportation and Barcelona’s main train station, but far from most major attractions. It’s not quite as luxurious as advertised, and rooms feel a little basic and lacking in character, but they’re all clean and soundproofed, and come equipped with flat-screen TVs, pleasant decor (red curtains and chairs, gray bedspreads), and comfortable beds. Clean, modern bathrooms have shower/tub combos and bidets. There is no full restaurant, and amenities are limited, but this hotel offers a decent value, especially for families or groups, as there are units that can sleep up to four guests for a reasonable price.

Petit Palace Barcelona

Petit Palace Barcelona Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The Petit Palace BCN is a 50-room value hotel in the center of Barcelona. Located near Plaza Catalunya, this hotel offers a variety of room types to suit groups and families. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, laptops, and free Wi-Fi. While some guests complain about firm mattresses and furniture that shows wear and tear, bathrooms are spacious and have rain showerheads. Some rooms have bunk beds to accommodate families and others have small balconies. However, not all rooms have great natural light and views, so be specific when making a reservation. Hotel highlights include a cozy bar area, breakfast room, and small fitness center and sauna. Bike rentals are also available free to guests.

Petit Palace Opera Garden

Petit Palace Opera Garden Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The Petit Palace Opera Garden is a budget-friendly, contemporary hotel in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona. This 61-room hotel is located on a charming side street and features a beautiful courtyard garden with trees that are over 100 years old. Modern rooms are on the small side, and have a purple and white sheet music theme. Family rooms -- with bunk beds -- are available in addition to regular double rooms. While there have been some complaints about street noise and general wear and tear, rooms have modern touches such as laptops, free Wi-Fi, and big flat-screen TVs. Some rooms have balconies overlooking the cobblestone streets and others have bathtubs. Other hotel highlights include free bike rentals and a nice breakfast room serving a buffet each morning (for a fee).
