The Ritz-Carlton, Berlin

The Ritz-Carlton, Berlin Rating: 5.0 Pearls

The 303-room Ritz-Carlton, located near Postdamer Platz, is one of the most luxurious hotels in Berlin. The rooms are gorgeous in a classically elegant way, featuring mahogany furniture, rich curtains, plush bedding, and massive marble bathrooms with separate soaking tubs and showers. Modern amenities include touch-screen controls and large flat-screen TVs. Wi-Fi is available, but it comes with a pesky additional fee. The hotel has plenty of amenities, including a large spa, indoor pool, sauna, and fitness center. There are also several dining and drinking options on-site, along with 24-hour room service.

NH Berlin Mitte

NH Berlin Mitte Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The NH Berlin Mitte is a 392-room property in the heart of the city. Rooms feature stylish, contemporary decor and flat-screen TVs. All rooms have minibars, coffeemakers, and soundproof windows. The hotel restaurant offers a (pricey) daily breakfast buffet and serves both international and Spanish cuisine for lunch and dinner. Room service is available 24 hours a day. Hotel perks include a small, modern fitness room, small sauna and spa area, and bike rental program. Overall, it's a nice upscale pick that offers a solid value.

InterContinental Berlin

InterContinental Berlin Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This 558-room luxury property has a convenient location in central Berlin, overlooking the Zoological Gardens and a short walk from the famous Tiergarten. Contemporary rooms have sophisticated decor, spacious bathrooms, flat-screen TVs, and stocked minibars; some have great views of the gardens. The InterContinental has all of the amenities you'd expect from a big, upscale chain: an extensive spa, indoor pool, fitness center, and two restaurants (including one with a Michelin star). While this hotel is a solid luxury pick in Berlin, there are pesky fees for in-room Internet access and for use of the saunas in the fitness center. The InterContinental is a popular choice for large conferences, and the hotel can feel a bit overrun during such events.

Sir F.K. Savigny Hotel Berlin

Sir F.K. Savigny Hotel Berlin Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The sleek Sir F.K. Savigny Hotel is a design-inspired boutique hotel in the elegant Charlottenburg neighborhood. All 45 rooms share an ultra-modern black and white motif, complete with flowing white curtains and striking black and white photographs. This hotel offers great freebies, such as in-room Wi-Fi, a minibar stocked with beer and soft drinks, and a Nespresso machine. Bright rooms get excellent natural night and have big flat-screen TVs and iPod docks. An attractive garden with tables and chairs is located out back of the 19th century building, and some rooms have balconies for private outdoor space. While bathrooms lack complete privacy and some guests consider the breakfast to be expensive, this is a great pick for design, location, and freebies.

Hotel Savoy Berlin

Hotel Savoy Berlin Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The historic Hotel Savoy is located in the elegant Charlottenburg neighborhood. This hotel first opened its doors in 1929, and welcomed famous guests from Greta Garbo to Thomas Mann in its grander days. The 125 rooms are large and traditional, with simple bathrooms, free in-room Wi-Fi, coffee machines, and flat-screen TVs -- though they are starting to show some wear and tear. Perks here include a cigar lounge, several restaurants and bars, and a small fitness center with sauna. A color palette of regal red is found throughout this charming hotel, and though some guests complain of thin walls, service here is still top-notch.

Estrel Berlin

Estrel Berlin Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The Estrel is a mammoth conference hotel with 1,125 rooms and suites. This complex also has five restaurants, two bars, a summer garden, and a concert venue with a performance every night. Simple, modern rooms are on the large side and have minibars, flat-screen TVs, and work desks. The hotel has a variety of public spaces, including a spacious lobby, outdoor biergarten, and indoor atrium bar. There is also a well-equipped fitness room and a business center. All of these amenities are an effort to make the complex as entertaining as possible, as the Estrel is quite far from the bustle of Berlin's center.

Grand City Hotel Berlin East

Grand City Hotel Berlin East Rating: 3.0 Pearls

The 317-room Grand City Hotel Berlin East is a value option away from the city center. This clean, quiet hotel offers bland rooms and suites with almost bare walls, simple furniture, and old tube TVs. Decor may not be a priority for the guests who choose to stay here, though, as these rooms are available at practically hostel rates. Bathrooms in standard rooms have tiny shower stalls, but upgrading to a suite provides more space. Perks here include a bright, modern fitness center and a location that is close to local tram stops. With 24-hour room service and an affordable breakfast at the on-site New Orleans bar, this hotel is a good pick, but it can be a little difficult to find and there is a pesky fee for Wi-Fi.

Grand City Hotel Berlin Ku'Damm

Grand City Hotel Berlin Ku'Damm Rating: 3.0 Pearls

The Grand City Hotel Berlin Ku'Damm is a mid-range option with spare amenities. There are some signs of age in the building, but for the most part everything looks fresh and clean. Quiet rooms are considerably more modern than at sister properties within this small chain -- rooms here have flat-screen TVs, a playful, modern design, and updated bathrooms. The sleek, jazz-themed breakfast area is appealing, as is the patio dining area and the small lobby fireplace. The biggest perk here is the location. The hotel is close to Berlin's best shopping along the Kurfurstendamm and is surrounded by dining options and cafes.

NH Berlin Treptow

NH Berlin Treptow Rating: 3.0 Pearls

The NH Berlin Treptow is located alongside the River Spree, a 20-minute train ride from the center of Berlin. This hotel, with a simplistic white facade, has 126 rooms and suites. Decor is basic, and clean rooms have work desks, lounge chairs, flat-screen TVs, and duvets. Rooms with river views are quieter than the front-facing rooms, which may experience street noise. The Spreeblick restaurant and lounge has indoor and outdoor service, and is one of the only restaurant options in the neighborhood. Other hotel perks include a small fitness room, sauna, outdoor barbecue facilities, and free parking, but there is a pesky fee for Wi-Fi.

Best Western Grand City Hotel Berlin Mitte

Best Western Grand City Hotel Berlin Mitte Rating: 3.0 Pearls

The Best Western Grand City Hotel Berlin Mitte is a 166-room urban chain hotel. Rooms are comfortable and clean with flat-screen TVs, minibars, and work desks. Decor varies in different room categories, but some rooms have soaking tubs and fun design features like sheer curtains separating the bedroom from the living space, and the pop of a bright green carpet. With floor to ceiling windows, rooms are filled with sunlight. Beyond the modern rooms, the lobby looks like it could belong in any Best Western in the world. A restaurant, cozy terrace bar, and small fitness room round out the hotel features. Though the breakfast is pricey this hotel offers a central location and decent value.
