Fairmont Southampton

Fairmont Southampton Rating: 4.5 Pearls

Built in the early 1970s, the iconic "Big Pink Lady on the Hill" is easily the most recognizable hotel in Bermuda -- and, following a 21st-century renovation, it’s still one of the nicest. No other hotel comes close to touching this 593-room property’s laundry list of amenities, which includes eight restaurants, an 18-hole golf course, a nightclub, a spectacular spa, two pools, a private beach, tons of meeting spaces, a kids’ club, an amphitheater, and a retail wing -- all for an amazing rate (all things considered). On the downside, rooms could use some updates, and the 100-acre resort's sprawling layout means long walks just to get to the beach.

Pompano Beach Club

Pompano Beach Club Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This 75-room resort’s hilltop setting is one of Bermuda’s most stunning. Consequently, all of its major amenities -- three restaurants, two bars, a lounge, a pool, three Jacuzzis, a boathouse, a game room, a small spa, and a fitness center – feature expansive ocean views and quick beach access. But killer vistas aren’t enough to save the dated decor and worn furnishings in the rooms and communal areas, which are in dire need of updates. Rates are higher than at some newer resorts with better rooms and amenities.

Newstead Belmont Hills Golf Resort & Spa

Newstead Belmont Hills Golf Resort & Spa Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The breezy, laid-back Newstead Belmont Hills Golf Resort & Spa is one of Bermuda’s only properties built within the last decade, and modern rooms, gourmet dining, a serene spa, and a spectacular infinity-edge pool prove it has raised the luxury bar for Bermuda’s more seasoned resorts. Even better, a central location puts nearly every major attraction less than a 20-minute drive away -- something that almost makes up for a lack of beachfront.

Elbow Beach, Bermuda

Elbow Beach, Bermuda Rating: 4.0 Pearls

A tranquil Mandarin Oriental signature spa, several restaurants, a beautiful pool, a half mile of private beachfront, and recently renovated rooms are among the perks at this elegant 50-acre resort. But if you are coming solely for the Mandarin Oriental affiliation, you’ll likely be disappointed, as the hotel doesn’t quite live up to its parent company’s prestige. Still, based on its merits alone, this hilltop property is one of Bermuda’s best options, outdoing similarly priced resorts like The Reefs and Pompano Beach Club.

Grotto Bay Beach Resort

Grotto Bay Beach Resort Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The private beach might be rocky and the rooms might be small, but lovely grounds and magical grottos give this 21-acre resort a special mystique of its own. And though its airport-side location isn’t the best, an impressive roster of amenities -- including a small spa, basic fitness center, tennis courts, three restaurants, and two bars (including one poolside) -- makes for one of the island’s best deals.
