Fairmont Southampton

Fairmont Southampton Rating: 4.5 Pearls

Built in the early 1970s, the iconic "Big Pink Lady on the Hill" is easily the most recognizable hotel in Bermuda -- and, following a 21st-century renovation, it’s still one of the nicest. No other hotel comes close to touching this 593-room property’s laundry list of amenities, which includes eight restaurants, an 18-hole golf course, a nightclub, a spectacular spa, two pools, a private beach, tons of meeting spaces, a kids’ club, an amphitheater, and a retail wing -- all for an amazing rate (all things considered). On the downside, rooms could use some updates, and the 100-acre resort's sprawling layout means long walks just to get to the beach.

Rosewood Tucker's Point Hotel & Spa

Rosewood Tucker's Point Hotel & Spa Rating: 4.5 Pearls

Rosewood properties are generally known for drawing an affluent clientele, and Tucker’s Point is no different. As a result, you will pay the island’s most expensive rates. But if you can afford it, you’d be a fool to pass it up -- no other property on the island has quite the sparkle and shine of this stunning 200-acre resort with immaculate grounds, four pools, four restaurants, a championship golf course, a private beach, a tranquil spa, and spacious rooms featuring million-dollar views.

Pompano Beach Club

Pompano Beach Club Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This 75-room resort’s hilltop setting is one of Bermuda’s most stunning. Consequently, all of its major amenities -- three restaurants, two bars, a lounge, a pool, three Jacuzzis, a boathouse, a game room, a small spa, and a fitness center – feature expansive ocean views and quick beach access. But killer vistas aren’t enough to save the dated decor and worn furnishings in the rooms and communal areas, which are in dire need of updates. Rates are higher than at some newer resorts with better rooms and amenities.

Newstead Belmont Hills Golf Resort & Spa

Newstead Belmont Hills Golf Resort & Spa Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The breezy, laid-back Newstead Belmont Hills Golf Resort & Spa is one of Bermuda’s only properties built within the last decade, and modern rooms, gourmet dining, a serene spa, and a spectacular infinity-edge pool prove it has raised the luxury bar for Bermuda’s more seasoned resorts. Even better, a central location puts nearly every major attraction less than a 20-minute drive away -- something that almost makes up for a lack of beachfront.

Rosedon Hotel

Rosedon Hotel Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This 44-room Hamilton hotel centered around an early 20th-century mansion is all about ambiance, from the grand circular drive flanked by stunning gardens to the beautifully restored interiors of the main house. Of course, amenities are scarce at this boutique property -- it lacks a fitness center, spa, and restaurant -- but a small pool, beautiful and unique rooms, and an authentic English charm give it an edge over similarly priced hotels in the area. Still, if you simply must have a beach nearby, consider heading to a different neighborhood altogether, as the closest sand and surf is a good 10-minute drive away.

The Reefs

The Reefs Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Location is everything at this cliff-top resort in Southampton Parish. Expansive views of the Atlantic Ocean dominate everywhere -- from the 65 rooms and 19 condos (all of which have ocean-view balconies) to the pool, private beach, and three restaurants. But those planning to spend all of their time ogling the views from their rooms better hope that luck is on their side: Several units’ bathrooms are in serious need of updates, but renovations are in progress.

Royal Palms Hotel

Royal Palms Hotel Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Hidden away on a tree-lined backstreet in downtown Hamilton, this boutique hotel has the elegance and genteelness of a Gilded-Age mansion. Amenities aren’t exactly the strong suit here, with just a small pool and a few other minor attractions; however, a spectacular restaurant, great city location, and lovely rooms make an ideal fit for both business and leisure travelers. But if you simply must have a beach nearby, you are best heading to a different neighborhood altogether, as the closest sand and surf is a good 10-minute drive away.

Elbow Beach, Bermuda

Elbow Beach, Bermuda Rating: 4.0 Pearls

A tranquil Mandarin Oriental signature spa, several restaurants, a beautiful pool, a half mile of private beachfront, and recently renovated rooms are among the perks at this elegant 50-acre resort. But if you are coming solely for the Mandarin Oriental affiliation, you’ll likely be disappointed, as the hotel doesn’t quite live up to its parent company’s prestige. Still, based on its merits alone, this hilltop property is one of Bermuda’s best options, outdoing similarly priced resorts like The Reefs and Pompano Beach Club.

Cambridge Beaches Resort & Spa

Cambridge Beaches Resort & Spa Rating: 4.0 Pearls

This 96-room, 30-acre resort trumps almost every other resort in Bermuda as far as style and sophistication are concerned. Of course, you’ll pay some of the island’s highest rates to enjoy it. But with its two stunning pools, expansive spa, four private beaches, three restaurants, and some of the most beautifully landscaped grounds around, you might just consider it a worthwhile investment.

Grotto Bay Beach Resort

Grotto Bay Beach Resort Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The private beach might be rocky and the rooms might be small, but lovely grounds and magical grottos give this 21-acre resort a special mystique of its own. And though its airport-side location isn’t the best, an impressive roster of amenities -- including a small spa, basic fitness center, tennis courts, three restaurants, and two bars (including one poolside) -- makes for one of the island’s best deals.
