Vista Sol Buenos Aires Design Hotel

Vista Sol Buenos Aires Design Hotel Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Vista Sol is a simple, modern property almost feels more like a complex of urban studio apartments than a mid-size, mid-price hotel. The standard rooms are small, but the sophisticated, minimalistic design leaves a surprising amount of useful space. The hotel has little more than a small fitness center and sauna, plus a basic restaurant, but it is clean and centrally located to tourist attractions and the city's business center. Overall it's a nice value -- in this city, it's easy to pay a lot more for a lot less.
Intersur Recoleta

Intersur Recoleta Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The 100-room Intersur Recoleta is located in the affluent, residential neighborhood of Recoleta, and its elegance reflects that. From the facade's stunning architecture and the lavish French-inspired decor, to the exceptionally helpful staff and the exquisite Italian fine dining at the Marcelo Restaurant, the hotel is striking and impressive in almost all respects. The spacious rooms are decorated in charming, sophisticated colors of beige and deep red and they are furnished with just the right amount of quality and class -- nothing is over-the-top or excessive. When not living the luxurious life (for a more than reasonable price!) inside the hotel, guests can enjoy the art galleries, shopping centers, and museums that are close by.
Ayres De Libertad

Ayres De Libertad Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The 30 apartment-style rooms in the Ayres de Libertad utilize space fantastically without sacrificing an attractive modern aesthetic. Studios offer plenty of wall storage, stocked kitchenettes, polished marble bathrooms, and balconies; some units have courtyard views, but other views are lousy. Common areas feel more cramped, with the indoor swimming pool and tiny fitness area dropped into one section of the lobby. Despite the lack of spread out common space, this sleek and modern hotel offers a convenient location in Recoleta and free breakfast is delivered to rooms each morning.
Hotel Cristoforo Colombo

Hotel Cristoforo Colombo Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The 160-room Hotel Cristoforo Colombo is hard to miss -- the facade is adorned with an enormous silver sign and fading flags that mark the entrance to this older high-rise property. Amenities include a funky circular pool, small play area, and tiny spa. The fitness center looks bright and modern, but much of the rest of the property is starting to show its age. Guest rooms look especially tired, with outdated furnishings and tube TVs. Free Wi-Fi and daily breakfast are nice perks, but the big draw is the hotel's great location close to parks and restaurants in Palermo.
Icaro Suites

Icaro Suites Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Icaro Suites provides guests with sleek, clean, and upscale rooms in a business-oriented area near the heart of Buenos Aires (though the public areas of the hotel feel less upscale). The 62 suites are roomy, comfortable, and sophisticated -- the dark wooden furniture and the simple deep-red and brown patterns of the bedding complement the subdued, beige walls and flooring. The rooms also come with some great features: large windows for lots of natural light, private balconies, free Wi-Fi, kitchenettes, and an ample living room areas. There's a free breakfast buffet of hot and cold foods in a hall that overlooks the hotel’s little art gallery, but there’s no other dining option on-site. There's a basic-needs (tiny) fitness center, and a business center with a few computers. Guests who have been traveling a while will likely appreciate the on-site laundry facilities.
Americas Towers Hotel

Americas Towers Hotel Rating: 3.5 Pearls

This upper-middle-range business hotel has the standard amenities of other hotels of its category, including a tiny rooftop pool and a small fitness center, plus a couple of great freebies (such as Wi-Fi and hot breakfast), but there's no full restaurant or parking on-site. Rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean, and have an elegant but somewhat dated decor, and some bathrooms are a bit cramped. Its central location in the heart of elegant La Racoleta neighborhood is hard to beat.
Feir's Park Hotel

Feir's Park Hotel Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The mid-range Feir's Park Hotel, located next to Retiro Station, has 115 rooms rising 13 floors. The hotel mostly appeals to business travelers: It has a location near businesses and government agencies, temporary rental offices, and the business center with seven work stations. Families might also appreciate the hotel for its adjoining rooms, however. Breakfast and Wi-Fi are included with the cost, and the hotel restaurant, Cuisine du Park, serves a mix of local and international cuisine. At lobby level, there is an authentic British pub serving drinks and live music. For sunny days, a rooftop pool is surrounded by lounge chairs (beverage and meals can be ordered), though tight quarters make the height a problem for some. The most stand-out aspect of Feir's Park is the regular Argentine cheese tastings and free private tours, including a guided three-hour bus ride on Saturday mornings. Overall, it is an older property and areas lack natural light, but cream-toned rooms include minibars, coffeemakers, and flat-screen TVs. Some rooms still have outdated carpeting, though.
Howard Johnson Plaza Florida

Howard Johnson Plaza Florida Rating: 3.5 Pearls

This upper-middle-range chain isn't luxurious by any means, but its rooms are cozy enough for the price, with comfortable beds, flat-screen TVs, and basic amenities that include coffeemakers and stocked mini-fridges. Nice perks include free continental breakfast and free Wi-Fi, but the main draw is the hotel's central location. It is close to downtown attractions and stands right on the bustling thoroughfare of Calle Florida, which is lined with stores and restaurants. Guests also have access to a nearby gym, but the hotel lacks a fitness center and pool. Also, noise can be a problem, especially in rooms close to the elevators.
Lafayette Hotel

Lafayette Hotel Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The 83-room upper-middle-range Lafayette Hotel is located in Microcentro, close to just about everything: shopping hubs, museums, the financial district, and Puerto Madero’s revitalized waterfront. In fact, once guests step out of the hotel lobby -- a bright, large and welcoming area with plenty of seating -- and onto Reconquista Street, they are right in the thick of the city’s bustle. The rooms are generously sized (suites and family rooms are available), but the windows don't let in a lot of natural light and some overlook unattractive alleys. The hotel's Midi restaurant serves up international cuisine, and a better-than-average free breakfast is offered daily. No pool here, but there is a spa. For location, price, and sizable rooms, this is a good choice for those wanting to be in the middle of the action.
Soho All Suites Hotel

Soho All Suites Hotel Rating: 3.5 Pearls

THIS HOTEL CLOSED IN FEBRUARY 2013. The Soho All Suites is a trendy 21-room boutique hotel in the heart of Palermo, an upscale neighborhood known for great shopping and dining. Located off a cute cobblestone sidewalk, the hotel brings the outside in by allowing the cobblestone to spill into the entrance. The minimalist lobby is chic, and the rooms are contemporary, with bright color accents -- but they lack the upscale appeal of the lobby and some furnishings feel a bit cheap. Bathrooms are small and in need of updating (aside from the cool vessel sinks). Kitchenettes offer basic amenities, while tiny balconies provide nice city views. The spa and rooftop dipping pool (a hot tub, though not heated) are the main features.
