Santa Caterina Hotel

Santa Caterina Hotel Rating: 5.0 Pearls

While most of the Amalfi hotels can claim excellent views across the coast, the 66 room-and-suite Santa Caterina Hotel has got five-star features, harmonious antique style, and fragrant gardens. Guests can take advantage of the wellness center, exclusive swimming pool access, and gym. Dining options range from the elegant Restaurant Santa Caterina to the more casual Al Mare eatery, along with an expansive wine cellar. A half-mile from Amalfi, people looking to stay directly in town may want to check out the three-star Hotel L'Antico Convitto instead.

Le Sirenuse Hotel

Le Sirenuse Hotel Rating: 5.0 Pearls

One of the priciest hotels in Positano, this luxury boutique is also perhaps the most beautiful and it lives up to its upscale reputation with pristine grounds, thoughtful free extras (like snacks and boat trips), and a renowned restaurant. Rooms feature antique furniture and modern appliances, but some are small and/or noisy. That said, it's an excellent choice for those who can afford it and seek a central location, gorgeous spa, and spectacular views from all around.

Bellevue Syrene

Bellevue Syrene Rating: 5.0 Pearls

Dating back to 1820, the historic Bellevue Syrene is a romantic, luxury hotel perched on a cliff in Sorrento. The hotel has two restaurants and 50 beautiful rooms, which are either sleek and modern or baroque and elaborate in design with balconies overlooking the Gulf of Naples. Guests looking for a decadent experience won’t be disappointed. There are a lot of perks offered by the hotel including free snacks and cocktails throughout the day, a seasonal private sunbathing deck on the sea, and breakfast served on an ocean-view terrace.

Il San Pietro di Positano

Il San Pietro di Positano Rating: 5.0 Pearls

A member of the Relais & Chateaux luxury fellowship and possibly the most expensive hotel in Positano, Il San Pietro has enormous rooms with spacious terraces overlooking the sea, an elevator with access to a private cove beach, an on-site luxury spa, and a Michelin-starred restaurant. The downside is that it is not within easy walking distance to town, but a free shuttle can take you there 24/7.

Hotel Parco dei Principi

Hotel Parco dei Principi Rating: 4.5 Pearls

The stylish Hotel Parco dei Principi was built in the early 1960s, retaining modernist design elements and striking graphic decor augmented by an impressive location perched above the sea. The hotel is on the outskirts of the town of Sorrento; the town center is about a 15-minute walk away. Guests have commented favorably on the attractiveness of the grounds and the stunning views as well as the cleanliness of the property.

M Gallery Palazzo Caracciolo

M Gallery Palazzo Caracciolo Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Once the home of the king of Naples, the Palazzo Caracciolo now houses an upscale boutique that is part of the MGallery Collection of Accor Hotels. The stylish, contemporary interiors are a striking counterpoint to the historic architecture. The 139 rooms feature all-white decor with silver accents, modern bathrooms with black and cream tiling, and solid amenities, such as flat-screen TVs, stocked minibars, and free Wi-Fi. The lovely cloister is a favorite among guests for a quiet drink at night, and the Mediterranean restaurant is a solid pick for those who wish to sample regional cuisine. But the fitness center is off-site, and guests have to pay a fee to use the facilities. While its central location offers easy access to the historic parts of Naples, the hotel’s immediate neighborhood is somewhat dilapidated and feels dangerous to some.

Royal Continental Hotel

Royal Continental Hotel Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The 397-room, four-star Royal Continental Hotel bills itself as a "boutique" property, but in actuality it is the largest convention center in Naples. Located in a quiet pedestrian area by the Bay of Naples, the Royal Continental has a wide variety of facilities for business travelers, including a full theater and exhibition hall, but tourists will also appreciate the location, away from Naples' inner-city crush and surrounded by cafes and restaurants.

Grand Hotel La Favorita

Grand Hotel La Favorita Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The 85-room Grand Hotel La Favorita combines gorgeous Renaissance beauty with contemporary comforts and decor. The property's central location in Sorrento makes it ideal for those wishing to explore the town on foot, take a boat tour to islands, or grab public transport. (With fee parking and high pedestrian traffic, the locale is less ideal for those with cars.) Lemon tree gardens are beautiful and relaxing, while the rooftop deck, complete with sparkling pool and bar, have a more lively and modern feel. Clientele tends to be mostly couples taking advantage of the romantic atmosphere. One downside is the lack of fitness facilities or spa services one would expect at a hotel of this category.

Grand Hotel Vesuvio

Grand Hotel Vesuvio Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Originally built in 1882, the luxe, history-laden 160-room Grand Hotel Vesuvio is Naples' only seafront five-star hotel. Its classic elegance and old-school attention to detail make it easy for visitors to sense they are walking the same halls that Humphrey Bogart, Grace Kelly, Rita Hayworth, and Enrico Caruso once did. Breathtaking views of Mount Vesuvius and the Isle of Capri, and neighboring Castel dell'Ovo, give guests a sense of the real Italy, with the ancient past and modern civilization existing side by side.

La Ciliegina Lifestyle Hotel

La Ciliegina Lifestyle Hotel Rating: 4.0 Pearls

Open since 2010, the 14-room La Ciliegina Lifestyle Hotel is a cool boutique located on the third floor of an office building. Intimate but without many of the major hotel amenities, the La Ciliegina is thoughtfully furnished with unusual details and has a bright, whitewashed Mediterranean feeling that extends to the rooftop terrace, where Bellinis and views can be enjoyed from a whirlpool.
