The Roxbury

The Roxbury Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The Roxbury is one of the funkiest hotels in the region. All of its 27 rooms have bright, bold decor, flat-screen TVs, microwaves, and mini-fridges; Theme Studios have style inspired by movies, cartoons, and TV shows from the 1960s and '70s. The inexpensive spa with relaxation and treatments areas; free Wi-Fi; free continental breakfast; and central location within easy driving distance of skiing, hiking and ziplining, are all highlights. But the hotel lacks an on-site restaurant (there’s one across the street), and most weekends have a minimum two-night stay.

Diamond Mills Hotel

Diamond Mills Hotel Rating: 4.0 Pearls

The elegant Diamond Mills is one of the most upscale hotels in the area. It features 30 beautiful rooms with rustic European decor, balconies or terraces with views of the Esopus Creek falls, high-end amenities, and bathrooms with radiant floors. The Tavern serves a contemporary menu in a gorgeous dining room, and the adjacent bar offers a wine and cheese hour five times a week. A small fitness center, great freebies (Wi-Fi, parking, continental breakfast), and in-room massages are all perks. And reasonable rates don’t hurt either.

The Sullivan

The Sullivan Rating: 3.5 Pearls

The Sullivan is an affordable contemporary hotel in Sullivan County, the area of the Catskills region closest to New York City. It features 70 spacious, bright rooms with flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and Egyptian cotton linens. There’s a wonderful Asian-American fusion restaurant owned by the hotel a few doors down, and the lobby bar offers free continental breakfast daily. But there’s no fitness center and no pool, and sparsely decorated rooms feel a little bland. Still, it’s a great choice for those looking to be near attractions and outdoor activities, and its extensive event space makes it a popular pick for weddings.

The Graham & Co.

The Graham & Co. Rating: 3.5 Pearls

With no TVs, spotty cell service in the area, and a location surrounded by nature (but within walking distance of restaurants and shops), The Graham & Co. lets guests get away from it all. It is relaxing, clean and simple, with rooms of varying sizes (some have kitchens) featuring Tivoli radios with iPod hookups, reclaimed wood furniture, and large comfy bean bags -- but little else. A small pool with mountains views; a large lawn with a fire pit, a volleyball net, hammocks and a projector for movie nights; and a covered lounge with games and music are all wonderful features. Great freebies such as Wi-Fi, loaner bikes, breakfast on weekends, and beer on check-in don’t hurt either.

Fisk House B&B

Fisk House B&B Rating: 3.0 Pearls

This cozy, five-room bed and breakfast feels like staying at a friend’s home -- rooms are small but charming; guests have access to a well-equipped communal kitchen and a living room, and a couple of rooms share a large, clean bathroom. Perks here include free Wi-Fi and free breakfast, and the Fisk is the only B&B in Delaware County that offers an in-ground pool (open seasonally). There’s not much within walking distance, but restaurants, stores and a wide array of outdoor activities can be found just a short drive away.
