Radisson Resort Orlando-Celebration

Radisson Resort Orlando-Celebration Rating: 3.5 Pearls

This upper-middle-range hotel has 718 stylishly (although somewhat generically) decorated suites, with flat-screen TVs, marble shower/tub combos, and colorful design touches. However, rooms are on the small side and lack full kitchens , but there are a few dining and drinking options on the property, including a casual, diner-style restaurant. On-site amenities appeal to both families and business travelers. There are two large outdoor pools with a children's pool -- some guests may find the pool area a bit overrun with kids. The business center has several desktop computers, and the convention space and wedding gazebo make the hotel appropriate for larger events. Although the property is not officially affiliated with Orlando-area theme parks, the free shuttle makes it easy to access Walt Disney World without the hassle of parking. Overall, room rates are comparable with other area hotels.

Grande Villas Resort

Grande Villas Resort Rating: 3.5 Pearls

For those who cherish the comforts of home, the Villas apartments, which range from one- to three-bedroom units, are spacious and fully stocked, right down to the laundry detergent and coffee. The sprawling outdoor pool area comes replete with an expansive mini golf course, a communal barbecue area, and a pizzeria/deli. Factor in that Disney World, Universal Studios, and Orlando’s other major fun parks are a short drive away, and the Villas can become an all-around great choice for families and large groups.

Hilton Grand Vacations at SeaWorld

Hilton Grand Vacations at SeaWorld Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Resembling a fun park in its own right, Hilton Grand Vacations at SeaWorld has a giant pool area with three pools and whirlpools, a waterfall, tennis courts, and a lineup of activities that includes pottery painting and movie night. The hotel provides free shuttle service to SeaWorld, which is right across the street, as well as Aquatica, Discovery Cove, and Universal. Standard studio rooms aren't particularly spacious, but include perks like kitchenettes and free Wi-Fi.

Doubletree Hotel At The Entrance To Universal Orlando

Doubletree Hotel At The Entrance To Universal Orlando Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Bright rooms (renovated in 2009) are the highlight at this otherwise unremarkable 742-room Doubletree across from Universal Studios. The courtyard pool is small; the service is bare bones; and Uno Pizza Express is the best on-site dining available. It's fine if all you want is a fresh, clean, and fairly inexpensive place to sleep -- and it has some decent business amenities -- but leisure travelers can do better elsewhere.

Buena Vista Palace Hotel & Spa

Buena Vista Palace Hotel & Spa Rating: 3.5 Pearls

With 1,014 rooms and a long list of activities -- tennis, basketball, volleyball, playground, and more -- the all-inclusive Buena Vista Palace Hotel and Spa is a massive resort. Adjacent to all of the most popular Orlando theme attractions, it is in walking distance of Downtown Disney. The resort has a relaxing side with three pools, a grotto, hot tub, and pool bar. Rooms are big and bright with a mix of chic and more basic furniture, along with flat-screen TVs and nice balconies. Some guests have complained about thin walls and a daily resort fee.

Nickelodeon Suites Resort

Nickelodeon Suites Resort Rating: 3.5 Pearls

One of Orlando's best options for families outside of a theme park. The property's 777 suites, all with kitchens or kitchenettes, are spacious and well designed to sleep families. The huge range of kid-pleasing features include two water parks, an arcade, and a "4D Experience" theater. The resort focuses on entertaining on-site, but also offers infrequent shuttles to Disney, Universal, and SeaWorld.

Disney Port Orleans Resort - Riverside

Disney Port Orleans Resort - Riverside Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Designed like an old town on the Mississippi Delta, the huge, 2,048-room Riverside is one of Disney's best Moderate-category hotels. Its guest rooms aren't as new as those at Coronado, but its more central location, fun pool complex, large rooms that sleep five, and beautiful (even romantic) setting makes it a great pick for the price.

Legacy Vacation Resorts

Legacy Vacation Resorts Rating: 3.0 Pearls

Legacy Vacation Resorts is a mid-range property with a fresh and well-kept feel, but guests should specifically request suites in the main campus for the best quality for their money. Perks include being just 20 minutes from the theme parks while still having access to nice on-site amenities -- including three pools and a mini-golf course. Rooms are spacious and clean, with flat-screen TVs, but lack privacy due to thin walls and door gaps. Guests should beware of the timeshare presentations that many feel can be annoyingly pushy. A comparable resort is the Wyndham Cypress Palms just a few minutes west, with similar pricing but fewer amenities.

Clarion Inn Lake Buena Vista

Clarion Inn Lake Buena Vista Rating: 3.0 Pearls

This mid-range property offers a solid value for families in town to visit Disney parks and area attractions such as Universal Studios and Sea World. Rooms here are a step above some similar properties; decor may be nothing special, but they are spacious and up-to-date with extras like flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, mini-fridges, and microwaves (that are oddly nestled beside the bathroom sinks). However, amenities may be a tad sparse compared to competitors as there's no on-site fitness center and the hotel does not provide a free shuttle to local attractions. Nonetheless, families appreciate features such as a pool with a splash zone, a game room, and laundry facilities.

Flamingo Waterpark Resort

Flamingo Waterpark Resort Rating: 3.0 Pearls

The Flamingo Waterpark Resort is a mid-range property offering outdoor activities meant for the whole family to enjoy. There's a kiddie pool and playground, daily outdoor kids' activities, and the coup de grace, an on-site water park complete with a lazy river and water slide. There are some amenities within the hotel for business travelers -- such as a meeting room and computer area. However, the rooms are in need of an upgrade and cleanliness is an issue. What's more, there are extra fees to use the water park, daily resort fees, and spotty Wi-Fi. There are no other hotels within a few miles of the resort, but for the same price, guests can stay closer to the parks on International Drive -- although the area is more hectic and congested since it is a high tourist area.
